Sorry about the double post - for some reason, despite being apparently logged in, somehow it posted my first attempt as a 'Guest' - no idea why?

That looks like the car that is/was for sale at Premier GT for £80k. They said that a foreign buyer was looking at it. It had had a bit of an off on a track day but tue factory had fixed it, nothing too serious according to Rookie.

Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
You are right it looks uncannily like the same car!
To explain the elevated price it's necessary to consider the considerable expense of shipping/importing it to Cyprus now that the UK is no longer in the EU :
Shipping - cost?
Import duty (10% based on original cost + shipping cost)
Emission tax? (Depends on CO2/km)
VAT at 19% (based on original cost + shipping cost)
Registration cost - €750
MOT - €40 (2 year validity)
Road tax - €352
That only leaves the problem of then finding an insurer which can be really difficult to source!

I think Chyprus is in EC, so there is no 10% import duty but VAT yes.

You are entirely correct in that Cyprus is in the EU BUT the UK now isn't!
So this car is being imported from a country outside of the common market hence all the extra charges.
Effectively imported cars are subject to 10% import duty + VAT based on the original new price until the car is more than 3 years old - thereafter it's pro-rated to 10% based on it's current assessed market value.
Plus all the rest of the costs mentioned in my previous post!

Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
Incorrect answers here that i will clear up.
After the Brexit, there was a brexit agreement signed by EC and UK with "preferential origin".
There is no import tax or duty when importing to EC a car built in UK. Ariel's are built in UK, so no import duty , only VAT. Used or new, same thing.
Private or company does not change the rules.
Of course if i want to import in France a used BMW from UK , i will have to pay 10% duty + the french VAT (20%).
Hope all is clear now.

Are you saying I could buy a used Caterham or TVR and import it privately and pay no duties? I would have to pay vat double though (these are allready payed in uk off course)
Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
Yes if you have of UK preferential origin, as a document from the manufacturer. And yes , when used car, you'll pay a second VAT (the one of your country)
Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
Some people on the WhatsApp group have looked at that and it is apparently a bit tatty / had a hard life.
GR Yaris CP for when it rains, Atom 4 for when it doesn’t.
Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
As i am not in the WhatsApp group , i can't comment.
I'm the french Ariel dealer since 2005, so before and after Brexit. Since Brexit we are obliged to use professionnal companies with specific accréditations to do the customs operations for us. So i'm 100% sure of what i have wrote here.
The main problem in some cases, but not for new Atom sold by the factory, is to be able to prove the UK Prefrential Origin and to have the right informations written on documents.
All this is explained on official websites that every one can read

But unfortunately this does not apply to spare parts. So import duties and import VAT apply here.
I can confirm this.
You need a custom agent based in UK for the Export out of UK and you need a second custom agent based at your home country for Import to EU (France or Germany).
It was a nightmare for me Nov. 2021 to bring the wrecked Chassis back to the factory and the new Chassis from the factory to Germany.

Unfortunately the Cyprus government apply their own rules for which they get fined by the EU every year but as the money they raise from their import duties, emission fines and VAT (plus anything else they can think of) greatly exceeds the annual EU fine they continue to go their own way!
Quoting what happens in most EU countries simply has no relevance here!

Re: This has just turned up for sale in Cyprus
Well i have explained the EC rules for EC countries but if a Chyprus garage/importer wants to pay the 10% with not asking for EC rules to apply , it's their problem.
In EC the import duties are collected by the customs of each country and send back to EC central administration (that's EC rules again).
The EC rules with preferential origin, so no import duties, applies to parts , not only to Ariel cars. Theoricaly some parts should have to be excluded and should pay the 10%, but here it's not the case (and i and Ariel are using a wellknown international express company which is in charge of customs for me).
