Throttle issue on 2016 k24 3.5 SC

Post by Szabo » Sun May 07, 2023 5:27 pm

The sun was shining so I thought I’d bring the atom out for a blast however after only 2 miles I lost all throttle response. Had to limp home at idle. Tried a few restarts and it did work intermittently but only for a few revs then totally dead no response at all. Some times it seams to sit at a fast idle.

I’m sure the problem lies between the TPS and the throttle body or is there any other area I should be looking.

Your help would be most appreciated.

Just tried disconnecting the battery to see if it resets anything, whilst there I took a photo of the TPS incase it helps with any suggestions

Some Nomads have had the same issue with that version of throttle potentiometer. Speak to the factory as there is a later version available which is apparently more robust.

Hi stupot

Thanks for the reply, are you thinking it’s the potentiometer.
Does this have to go back to Ariel for set up/calibration

Regards

I'm having the exact same issue. I thought it might be immobilizer related, but TMI said it likely wouldn't start and more likely advanced electrical issue. Will keep an eye on this thread and follow up if I hear anything

They're saying bad tps and magnet most likely

Update : spoke with Steve at Ariel today about my issue and as always they are incredibly helpful. Steve agrees the issue is likely related to the TPS sensor and told my to try the following.

Check for a worn pedal bush which would increase clearance between magnet and tps hall sensor

Check the green throttle relay and associated plug

Check the TPS plug is connected properly. This involves chasing loom back under bonnet

I also asked for test parameters for the TPS which has just been emailed to me at 8:30pm (can’t fault Ariel’s commitment)

Steve also said I had the later less problematic sensor

However I have just been out to the atom to check for the above and my throttle is working perfect I cannot replicate the issue. This has left me completely baffled and now have no confidence in taking the car too far incase my “intermittent fault” rears its head again.

Your thoughts please

See here response from Steve regarding the test parameters for TPS not sure how these relate to varying TPS’ used over the years/models

Hey, I tried the startup with full throttle and I have it now too. Then tried normal and continued to work. Like you, I'm afraid to go too far though

Thinking my problem had gone away I went out for a drive today and 10 miles later the throttle issue has re occurred.
Time the pedal gets removed and sent down to the factory for testing. 😒
