Atom 4 wings
I really like the atom 4 wings, but find paying over 5k for them a little punchy ! Any other alternatives at all? I take it the investment in wings from Ariel will not show itself in resale value ?
Re: Atom 4 wings
I don't think there are any alternatives but wings do add value and desirability to an Atom. Given that most Atoms hardly depreciate, I reckon its a worthwhile investment.

Apart from the look do they add useful downforce on track ?
What's the clearance like with them fitted ....getting the car on a trailer ?

Re: Atom 4 wings
Ariel say they add downforce but not seen any figures, are much more effective than old versions.
Clearance is the same, but is at its lowest across a wider area.
Love mine.

Direct quote from Henry when I asked the question of downforce.
My Question.
Could you forward the downforce generated by the front and rear wing, you said you did have the figures but not to hand.
Reply from Henry
1100N combined between the front and rear at 100mph

The quick answer is on a cold day yes, on a hot day no.
The drag makes the engine work harder (obviously) and thus on hot days temperatures rise and the engine will cut power after a while to protect itself.
On normal temperature days this doesn't happen, nor does it happen if you aren't fully pushing the car. The added cornering speed is useful but the win is mainly on stability through corners and under braking.
That's just my 2p.

Stu

Stu,
What reduction in top speed were you seeing? Or was it mitigated by the higher cornering speeds possible?

Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.
Re: Atom 4 wings
It's difficult to say Pete but it was significant for me.
I did a few days last year when the temperature was 30 degrees in the UK and I was struggling to get the car over 135mph on a few different circuits.
On a cool day at Bedford I saw 150mph. I ran against a mate with the same car but without wings and he was seeing the same speed as me, so the wings weren't causing too much drag.
To be fair to Ariel though, the wings are a massive step forwards from the old ones and on a cooler day the car would definitely be quicker over a lap with them on. Also, the confidence from the extra grip means that you can take more liberties with the throttle mid corner which brings a lot more lap time than the straight line speed issue.
I do thing that they look amazing though and I'm still dicking around deciding whether to put them on the car again.
Cheers,
Stu
