Mintex 1144

Post by g8kam » Sun Nov 12, 2006 1:55 am

I've got Alcon front & comp rear, but could never manage to lock the rear up, however, through a member's recommendation, I've now changed my rear brake pads using Mintex 1144, I could now lock up my rear with relative ease, withthe brake bias fully to rear.

Now, just needs to wind the bias forward until I get the right balance.

I've only done 50mles so far, expect it to improve further, once it bedded in.

I therefore highly recommend them for road use, and an good alternative to the more expensive Pagids :tu:

[/quote]Yes, it was fitted by the factory during build. I know Ross posted he could lock his rear up, but I couldn't.

Its worth a try, the comp rear calipers are from MGF.

I have the same brake combo, and have been making some changes to improve the rear braking performance.  First I went to the 0.7 front master cylinder and the 5/8 rear, and still couldn't lock the rears.  Then, after much consulting with the experts at Brammo, went to a 7/8 front master cylinder.  On the track, once the brakes got hot, I was able to get the rears working good and to lock.  But at that point, the rear pads wore out very quickly.  I've now installed new pads, and we'll see how long they last.  Over here, I've only found one pad option so far, which I assume are made for street use.

The pads you've described sound like they work great on the street, but what's going to happen to them on the track, once they get hot?  They might not last the day.

What about the job of changing the pads on those "competition" rear brakes?  What a PITA!

The pads are designed for fast road, light circuit, they have higher spec pads 1166 for race track, but not for road use.

The Atom is only light weight, i'm guessing that the pads should be able to stand up to  trackday conditions.

Changing the rear pads is only a 15 mins job per wheel !!!

Hi Kin,

Do you have the Mintex part number for the Comp Rears, I looked for MGF in the 1144 and not managed to find them.

Having read all the post in this thread and others on the same subject, there seems to be inconsistant reports by those who can and those who can't 'lock their rears under braking.

Maybe it would be useful to know what tyres are fitted and even tyre temperatures as this is bound to be a factor. E.g. isn't it more difficult to lock slicks than it is to lock wets?

I just upgraded to alcons all round, do you recomend the same pads for rear and front?
had comps front and rear before and when I run car on track I would get more wear on the rear pads... do you find this on the alcons as well? and would that mean that a harder pad would be better for the rears?
