Wheels and tyres

So they arrived today in just under 24 hours since placing the order. Can't fault that for service!

I have fitted them to the car already. Have to say they feel much lighter than the team dynamics. I'll have to make a point of weighing both sets next time I switch. I'm yet to road test but the car is sat outside work so I'll find out on my commute home in a bit

I guess that was you on the A418 tonight coming into Aylesbury. I had just turned the climate control down to 20.5 and set the seat heating to mid level as I saw you

Just to confirm the Rota wheels are lighter than the team dynamics. Rota's are sporting yoko AD08R's and team dynamics have Toyo R888's. Weighed using the bathroom scales with me holding each wheel and then subtracting my weight;

TD front = 15.6Kg
TD rear = 17.9Kg
Rota front = 13.8Kg
Rota rear = 17.7Kg

I'm not sure when the missus last sent the bathroom scales off for calibration so I do not know how accurate the numbers are but they appear fairly consistent.

Now I am faced with a dilemma. I am have fitted the TD's today as with the warmer, dry weather the R888's are more applicable. Confirmed after I span the atom at 60mph on Sunday morning , luckily no harm done and no cars were coming the other way. Thing is I prefer the look of the rota's, they are easier to clean and are a bit lighter than the TD's. I am tempted to sell the TD's and buy another set of rota's when my R888s need replacing. Any reason why the TD's could be considered superior? Other than the space issue with the rota's....

Just a quick update on the Kumho V700's.

I had the settings put on mine from the 3.5R, slightly stiffer springs front and rear and the Kumho's.

I've now done a couple of track days and some road miles and would never consider buying a set of R888's or A048's again.

The cornering speed and wear rate have both improved significantly. The one caveat is that it was much more tricky at a damp Silverstone, due more to the settings and spring rates rather than the tyres imo.

I got them bolted on at the Factory whilst they did the other stuff.
I'm only 20 miles from them, so it's easier for me to let them do it. In fairness, they are normally as cheap as any other suppliers on tyres.

Do allow an extra couple of gallons of fuel for Rookies "test drives" though

Sorry that was a typo. Should be 'spacer' not 'space. The Rotas require a spacer on the front wheels to fit and clear the calliper.

I have had an email conversation with rota today and it appears that they are awaiting an order of wheels to come in. The new ones will have a different offset which means they will not need a spacer. They also will not have the extra slots between the PCD drilling. More reason to buy another set!

Are the Rotas wider on the rear than the TD's?

I had a feeling that they were and thus could fit a 245 profile tyre instead of the standard 225, although this would mean putting on wider rear wheel arches to accommodate?

I may have thought that I read this after some wine though so could be well wide of the mark.

Yes believe rotas are a wider wheel. I'll measure them over the next few days

I quite like the TD wheels. The only factor that would make me change is how much easier a 5 spoke wheel is to clean than a TD wheel (just my age showing up now). I would have thought being a four stud arrangement that someone would have come up with a four spoke wheel by now

Steve Gibson's theory (with which I agree) is that an uneven number of spokes give an 'unbalanced' feel to the car and therefore make it look faster. Three spokes might look better. Might not actually work, but might look nice.

What's the expression? "More spokes less poke"?
