Frame cracks

Post by Loco_Mario_PL » Thu Sep 08, 2016 8:05 am

Well, it happened. A crack appeared on the frame near the engine bay. The car has less than 10k km done, no "extreme" driving, or after all it's not a car for going to a shopping mall.

Any advise ? Welding ? Which ?

Help, guys...

Did you buy it new? Any ideas on car history? Do you have a relationship with Ariel?

Yeah, one owner from new, it's AA3 300 from 2010.

I am from Poland, so a trip to Crewkerne has always been costly. However, if need be....

That's unusual for a AA3 to crack like that,plenty of 2s ,don't think I've heard of a 3 doing this .
Ariel Nomad,Toyota GT86 and a T5 work horse ,oh and a 4x4 for winter

Me either to be honest, that's why I was asking a bit of background. Always difficult to know the entirety of a car's history but the factory may know a bit more? Definitely worth a ring either way.

Interesting, a crack near the solder on a AA3... quite unusual  ???

Tom just wrote it could be TIG welded or brazed, so... I basically got it. :roflp:

Last year I found a hairline crack in the exact same place on my A3 300 - further inspection found the crack to be on the weld (not sure how deep it went or if it was actually integral) but I tig welded it and since then no issues.

Finding the right colour of paint was more of an issue!!!
