Supercharger in & out

Post by Atomicandy » Mon Nov 16, 2015 5:45 pm

To anyone who has taken their supercharger out or installed one.

Is there a knack to it ?

Manifold to engine then supercharger to manifold ?

Or fit it all together then install it

I'm struggling as its so tight in there

Cheers

It is very tight in there as you say, and I'd be surprised if it can be done without pulling the engine out. Have the factory said it can be done in situ?

I have just removed mine with engine still in place.

Obviously all inlet / wiring / belt / injector rail removed first.

Coolant drained off.

Then undid all the manifold bolts a little each as very tight for space and most can't be removed fully as charger in the way. I then slide the whole assembly back towards the bulk head and would have been able to remove had i remembered the support brace underneath

Once this was un bolted the whole charger and manifold lifted out.

The charger has been out before though and i seem to remember that some of the bolts were originally studs which make it impossible i think as there isn't enough room to slide back to clear the studs (i may be wrong re this bit as i didn't do that work)

The answer is to use spare nuts to lock two on the end and remove the stud as you would a bolt.

Hope this helps

Stuart, Atom 2 or 3? Which year? On my Atom 2 '05 there's a cutout in the bulkhead that the edge of the charger pokes thru it's that tight in there. I can't imaging I could slide mine away more than a couple of mm

Thanks for the replies

Smokin could you take a pic of the cut out for the supercharger. It would really help me out.

Cheers

Never tried dropping it down but I suspect the gearbox end will catch the frame. It will move backwards a reasonable amount with exhaust off though if that helps.

Yesterday, I took a picture of a K20 Kraftwerk rotrex supercharger install in the civic.
With a little adjustment on the engine cover, this can be done in the Atom
Very clean installation....nothing to it. Comes with the supercharger bracket mounted on the top of the intake.

Seen a few rotrex kits and never liked the location and the chopping of the tea tray and location of other ancillary components.
Saw this in a recent map tuning magazine (K20z Honda prelude supercharged) running a conservative 400hp and what was interesting was where the supercharger was fitted using a shaft drive kit to relocate the charger over the gearbox (maybe a cone filter on the atom could be clamped straight on also?)
Apologies this pic is from my magazine but you get the idea.
It's running a C38-91 supercharger on standard internals which it will do reliably all day long on a proper map tailored to vehicle.
