Left side locks first
Left side locks first
Any idea why left side has started to lock the wheels first?
I can see that the front left wheel locks before the front left and I suspect that its the same on the rear.
I havnt made any changes to the front breaks. Its the same tire preassure.
I have reciently changes the breakes at rear, but that shoulnt affect the front breakes?
The car is a Atom 2 300 right hand side UK.

Re: Left side locks first
Can it be as simple as that the right side have lore weight??
I havnt noticed this before.
One more thing, I noticed a slight rattle in the steering wheel around 110kmh today while driving. Could it be connected to the other issue?

Re: Left side locks first
I think you are correct in that you have more weight on the Right hand side of the car. Repeat the test with a passenger to confirm.
Re: Left side locks first
Also, is this braking to the point where it's just locking?
I mean, we'd all like even locking, but anything from tire temp, weight distrib, road surface etc can change it more for one tire than another. So if you're just stamping on the brakes, hopefully both will lock, but if you're doing to the "only just" surely it's quite likely one will go before the other.
Anyways, I agree with the weight distrib as perhaps why it's one more than the other repeatedly.

Paros, a wheel bearing on its way out will cause this and may also explain the rattle.

I didnt get any comment on the wheel beerings at the previous check at the vehicle Inspection.
A bad wheel beering sounds when spinningthe wheel.
How do I notice a "wheel beering on its way out"?

Re: Left side locks first
If there's no bad sound when you rotate then it'll be fine. You'll feel it / hear it when rotating before other symptoms.
If the pressure's ok then I'd suggest corner-balance but I can't see why that would suddenly change or cause the rattle.
Do you get any pulling to the left? or any shuddering? or any other symptoms?

Re: Left side locks first
I will do a test run tomorrow.
Whats corner balance (like the wheels are pointing in correct position)?
I changed the rear tires a week ago, I remember that one of the tires didnt have any thread at al while the other one was quite ok.

Re: Left side locks first
Air in the system or sticking caliper? - Look for trouble on the side that isn't locking.
Possible collapsed brake hose?
Need to understand why one rear tyre had no tread when the other was ok recently - maybe a clue there ..
This is interesting

I found this a useful explanation and 'how to' for corner weight/balance http://robrobinette.com/corner_weight.htm
FYI, as a general rule you don't want rears locking up at all (unless you enjoy spins) so make sure front/rear bias is set as far forward as it will go when you test. And off the public highway if you can
