Check the mapp-sensor, the blue Contact above the intake/throttle.
Remove  it (one small screws) and measure the pins in the connector.
If it is broken, order a new (maybe £ 100 - £ 120).

Very easy jobb.

Can also be the TPS-sensor, look like same as the mapp-sensor but black and is placed in front/side of the intake/throttle.

att: do not test to switch the Cable between the TPS and mapp-sensor (it´s possible), then you gonna burn the mapp-sensor.

Would any of those stop the fuel pump from priming?  Would have thought they were more likely to cause running issues rather than not starting at all.

I think you're right Ben.

If the fuel pump relay is called by the ECU pin 30 going low then so long as there's a 12 volt feed and fuses are ok you should see 12 volts acoss the pump.

Ben, sorry to insist on my first post concerning inversion of 2 connectors in the fuel pump area. The symptom i had where exactly same as yours. I even send the ECU to Ariel for control before i found my mystake ...  :(

Pin 1 on the Honda ECU, the diagrams you linked to are for the Rover ECU, which makes sense as the multi function relay is from Rover K powered cars.

That would not explain the fuel pump running when I manually operate the relay.

I did try swapping them when you first suggested it and no joy.

if we discuss of the same connectors, i can confirm you that it runs the pump when pushing the relay (i have to an opened relay to do tests). I unfortunately don't have pics of these Atom 2 connectors and no car here to make one.

So the wrong connector will still run the pump when pushing the relay?  OK I am going to try again later.

TPS connector is not really a problem in this case. But on the other hand, I think it could be a broken Mapping sensor.

I had the same problem as you a few months ago, I also checked for errors in the fuel system, it seemed like the engine got too much fuel when trying to start the engine.

It's very easy to check. Just check ohm value of the three pins inside the connector.
