Engine idle at 5000RPM
Hi all,
Out here driving and playing a little when all of the sudden the engine stays revving at 5000rpm or more. I switched of the engine and restarted after which the engine still idles at apprx 5000 rpm. It also surges upto 5300rpm and then drops back to 5000.
I tried disconnecting the battery for 5 min to see if it resets anything, but no luck.
It's an 2012 Atom 3 (with all 3.5 options) so it can't be a stuck peddle or sensor, right :-
Any suggestions more then welcome, otherwise we'll have to walk home
Thanks!
Pieter

Call Steve at the factory! I could well be wrong but Steve suggested they fit a throttle stop on my car(3.5 2013) reason being some people had broken the existing throttle stop which is housed n the top of the pedal box. The result being engine revving throttle open continually which sounds like the problem you have got.
Might be wrong but I thought I'd mention it!
Cheers

Sounds like static rpm limiter is set at 5k and you're currently on perminent wide open throttle. Think Steve is right and there's a prob with tps in pedal box

What they say, I recall 5000ish being the rev limiter when static. If you popped it in gear, I think you'd be in for one scary ride.
I've got the throttle stop mentioned fitted, and so far no problems.

Problem is solved
Re: Engine idle at 5000RPM
Yet another problem that mass producers would have done a recall and fix free-of-charge! (Factory excused if this was zero cost to you Pieter)

Think you are being a bit hard on Ariel.....they don't have a network of dealers, nor do they charge mass producer prices for their performance! However, notification of issues would be good (they manage to send Christmas cards after all!!)
I kind of reckon, you pay your money, you take your chance........no where does it mention 3 year, 60,000 mile warranties etc

Agree with you there NorthNoble. I believe we all have been told there are no warranties, and considering the harsh beating the car regularly gets at the track I'm still very happy with it and every service surprised not more bits have come off Driving it every lap in the rev-limiter, hitting every apex and not afraid to go over even the higher curbs, and at the end of the day putting it back in the garage, ready for the next time.
This was the first problem after 11000 miles.
That being said, I have to admit that the parts came at a pretty hefty cost, although that is also because of the weak Euro... So don't leave us Britain

Re: Engine idle at 5000RPM
But buy yourself an early 2 and see if you feel the same. Fuel tank leaks (fixed in next release), chassis cracks at engine mounts (fixed in next release), bulbs ejected from holders, wiring shorts, wiring melted, I could go on.
But don't get me wrong, I still love my 2. And pound for ft lb it's great value. What I'd like is the factory to accept liability for the short-comings of earlier models. After all, they spotted them and fixed them in later releases.
