Tyre choice

Post by Stevef » Sun May 22, 2016 9:40 pm

Doing a bit of a euro tour early July and wondered which tyre wheel combination I should use. Will be doing a couple of days on the Nurburgring and a few mountain trips. My options Ao48's or Advan Neova's Ad08r. I assume the latter given the likelihood of damp weather.

From viewing previous posts I think the general consensus is the A048s are best and you can get the rears in a slightly harder compound for a bit more mileage. Saying that I've only ever used the A048 myself so might not be the best person to comment. ;D

Thanks for response, I run a048's usually but have a spare set of wheels with Advans on them, I just wondered if this was a good opportunity to use them, otherwise I can't see them going on the car!

If you're prepared to slow down significantly if and when you hit rain then you'll be rewarded handsomely when it's dry if you stick to the A048's when you hit the Ring.

As it's a warm time of the year, it's not really about tyre temperature, just aquaplaning.

I wouldn't personally go near a Tourist session on the ring unless it's bone dry anyway.

I have 888's fitted at the moment, how much different are 048's overall?

Not very different at all. Having run both, I think that 888's get up to temperature a little more quickly but A048's seem to stay slightly more consistent and perhaps last a tiny bit longer. Either/Or is a good choice.

I have 2 sets of wheels....one with AO48s and one with AD08s

Summer / race combo.....AO48s

Winter / road trip......AD08s

I am doing the NC500 this weekend and have just swapped back to the AD08s ...... Scottish weather unpredictability  :)

Road trip, I'd have the AD08 if I had the choice...

^^This^^ southern Germany often has huge long thunderstorms with a lot of rain, not much fun being parked up waiting hours for it to stop.

Depending on how far you're travelling, the AO48s will wear out in around 3000 miles if your car is n/a and 2500 miles if supercharged. Assuming standard 'making progress' style driving.

Worth considering.
