Near side rear kerbed...
Near side rear kerbed...
My son got on the power a little too soon and the back end stepped out. He corrected that but then hit the kerb NSR. That wheel now has a run-out of around 3mm and gives what looks like a buckled wheel. However the wheel is not buckled (tried another wheel on it). Taking the wheel off does not show any thing that is obviously bent. The bugger of it is that the car has only just had new bearings and flanges! Grrrr!
Anyone else had experience of hitting a kerb/armco?
Cheers

At the risk of making myself look more stupid than usual.
If it ain't the wheel surely it's the axle,....or the wishbones?

Re: Near side rear kerbed...
I think A-arms are desingend to collapse in the event of an impact to absorb some of the force etc
Probably best to check wheel allignment on that wheel

Both sides are mirror images so it may be an idea to take a measure and angle from the good side and compare.
When I hit my front hub, my top wishbone twisted up as well as collapsed out so check space between top and bottom frames.

If you're only seeing a 'runout' of approx 3mm, you're not going to be able to see or measure much I would have thought.
For the wheel to look like it's running out / buckled, and it's not the wheel/tyre assembly as you've ruled that out, it suggests that the hub is now loose on in its bearings/ upright maybe due to metal displacement caused by the impact.
Otherwise surely the wheel would rotate true, it would just be rotating in the wrong plane.

These might help visualise the problem

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.

That's exactly the thing I can't 'see' either....can it really have bent the drive shaft?!
Is it possible the bearings/flange are out of square with the upright? That could account for a run out. Would re-seating these sort it?

Hi Nick I agree with John , if you get a dail test indicater and set it up on the hub, take some measurement's of movement ,it will help pin point the problem

Yep dial tester already set up. But it will have to wait until after the Indian GP
I can already see there is run-out at the hub, but it looked a strong component so I wondered if it was someting further back, not that there is much further back!
Enjoy the race - A win for Jenson!?

They say a picture paints a thousand words, so here are 2. They show the highest point in two planes, in thou. I left a wheel nut to to show reference. Is it possible that the bearings have moved in the upright I wonder? Haven't got a socket that fits the hub nut so can't go any deeper today. Further thoughts anyone?

I think you got to take the hub off and check the bearing's are rolling ok ,if there not best change them also have you got lsd on your car
