Anyone interested in a dyno day?
Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
Back on track then
Dates and times have moved....
October 29th in the morning (currently from 10).
Getting these confirmed as we speak....
ANYONE ELSE?

Update:
We are currently in discussion over date and timings for a club dyno day.
Keep me peeled for a new thread!

Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
I don't know if anyone has done a search on the forum about Dyno days, but if they do, they'll find quite a lot of 'lively discussion'.
To restate a very long held view, Dyno's are only good for making improvements to unique and individual engine outputs and power shapes. What you should NEVER NEVER NEVER use them for is to measure the absolute output of an engine and then compare it to other engines or manufacturers specifications. If you do, you will get upset.
Reasons: Different measuring equipment set up in different ways at different altitudes and in different weather conditions with different wheels and tyres on different ages of engine... and we haven't even got to the algorithm that converts wheel output to crank output...
Dynos are the work of the devil - unless you are just using them for what they were made for...

It sure will disappointing for everyone if additional and proper cooling isn't available at the dyno.
And by that I'm not talking about the standard big fan in the front of the car.

Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
FTR guys this is just for:
a)FUN
b)Interest
c)Check my car is fuelling correctly.
d)Comparison of different engine types on the day.
If you do this back to back on an independent rolling road the results can be compared over the day.
However I fully accept that on a different day, on different rollers, and worst of all from a place that tuned your car, results can vary significantly! ;-)

Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
Yeah I'm not a big fan of dyno's for fun. A great bit of kit to assist in engine tuning but dyno to dyno comparisons are open to abuse. These cars are not big number cars as we all know and have much more to offer than 0 - 60 and vmax blats. That said each to there own and it is a good excuse to meet up. I do think the drive to and from the meet will beat the dyno experience though!
How are they going to check fueling? Presumably so kind of AFR gauge or they will connect to ecu to take lamba readings...

Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
As you say each to their own. I maybe sad but I find the occasional power run pretty cool. It'll be nice to hear my car flat out, charger wailing (other than from the drivers seat)! I'll be honest its not something I would do regularly though.
I enjoy the Atom on the road, but prefer track work tbh. This is (for me at least), just a bit of fun and something different to do as a meet!
I think they work out the mixture using a probe up the exhaust (but I could be wrong). If it is running either lean or over fuelling the combustion gasses would vary. I can't remember tbh, but it IS something they measure.

Re: Anyone interested in a dyno day?
After discussion we are re-opening this with flexible dates to hopefully allow a few more to come along.
We have 1 Nomad (Andrew) and an Atom 2 (me) and Atom 3 (Alex) down already.
It'd be great to get a few others along.
Anyone else interested?

Hi,
I'd be up for this. Let me know when you have some dates.
