2008 Euro Road Trip

Post by benyeats » Tue May 22, 2007 3:33 pm

Hello,

Early days yet but would like to do a European road trip similar to the Millau Hoon in the later part of next summer want to cover the following ground.

Route Napoleon

and Stevlio Pass

Basic route is down France the way Bruce and I came up France last year on to Monte Carlo then across the top of Italy to Switzerland then Stelvio then back across France or something like that.

Will think up some dates nearer the time (like next January) but it seems like a good plan to me

Definitely up for this. How many days away from home are you considering, Ben?

I don't know if you heard about the "Stelvio or Bust" : Lotus pilgrimage, every year since 1999 (between 1st and 15th of September)
In fact, the Lotus Elise was tested by the factory on the Stelvio Pass. So it is for us a way to celebrate the birth of the Elise.
Some Info and pics of previous editions on http://www.stelvio.be/ or http://www.stelvio.co.uk/

I took part in the years of 2k, 2002, 2004 & 2006 with my Elises (... 2008 with my Ariel ?...)
Perhaps you'll find it's a good idea to join an existing Lotus trip, perhaps no.

If you plan to do something like this, you must know that it's difficult and dangerous during July and August as there are a lot of tourists and bikers (bicycles). Also hotels are cheaper in September.

Only one week (from Saturday to Sunday) is possible and cheaper, of course.
2 weeks allow rest days. But many people cannot be free during 2 weeks.

I'm waiting my Atom and surely will join... :tu:

I was reckoning September, perhaps in the week encompassing the August bank hol (I know that is a contradiction but it will be late Aug / early Sept) thus only 4 days off work for those that are worried about that sort of thing (i.e. me !)

Would think doing Saturday through Sunday will give plenty of time and even allow multi night stops in some places for rest (ish) days

In that case you won't actually touch September at all as August Bank Holiday 2008 is Monday 25th.

The week Saturday through Sunday spanning the Bank Holiday would then be 23rd August to 31st August 2008.

and this from someone who claimed not to know what day of the week it was !

Will have to check exactly how much the month effects hotel prices and also would prefer to go outside of the school holidays which I guess end the last week of Aug.

I hope we can include Paris on our trip again, it was one of the highlights of the Millau Hoon

Did someone offer us a route book for this?

If so, we're having our first meeting on Sunday to start firming things up for 2008... exciting!

If you have anything that would be useful, please let Ben or myself know.

Thanks!

maybe you could do 1 or 2 (silly - but fun) challenges like, each person has 100 Euros and has to spend it in France, to buy something for thier Atom or something similar that would 'help' them on thier trip...

Just a thought...
