So how about:

- Leave M3 Southbound Services at 9am
- Get to Caen Hill Cafe for opening time at 10:30am
- Remaining hour drive back through Newbury for people heading East again

It would be good to finally meet you TravelBug - and see the shiny new car of course! We could probably do a convoy to the start point with SvenTheHammer, but you 4s would need to give me a head start in my overweight Nomad :-(

Sounds good.
Where would be the best/most convenient meeting place for the three of us? Possibly the Cobham services ?
Re: Season Kick Off Run - Sunday 21st June
Sounds like a plan Sven. I'll look at timings next week if that's OK, as we get closer to the finer details.
A question for Newbury-type people (Peter255 / Winmoz?): The route used in 2018 ends at the Halfway Inn, which is currently closed and nobody is answering the phone. Do you know of somewhere near there that the tour could end? Worse case scenario, a local BP or Shell garage with a decent sized forecourt. Just somewhere to pull up and get ready for the trip home afterwards.

Karl
You could possibly consider the John O'Gaunt in Hungerford which not only has a reasonably sized carpark but is currently offering a food takeaway/delivery service.
It is well known for the quality of food offered so it might be possible to preorder food and drink and then either picnic in the carpark or park up alongside the Kennet & Avon canal (very close) to eat, feed the ducks and socialise before heading home?

Which way do you fellas expect to head towards Winchester? Assuming A3/A31 is preferable to M3, I could join you somewhere on that route.SvenTheHammer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 4:33 pmSounds good.

Quick update...
Weather next weekend is (currently) looking better than it has been for the past week or so.
Paul - thanks for the tip on John O'Gaunt in Hungerford - I forgot your were 'part time' Newbury based I've amended the route to end there.
Chris - the problem with the A3/A31 is that you'd need to cut up around Aldershot to hit the M3 Southbound; that or do about 20 miles of double-backing on the M3 to point in the right direction. Either way, it still means quite a bit of M3 travel and will add about 40 minutes getting to the start point (coming from Cobham Services). Probably best to meet you there is Winchester is closer than Cobham?
Sven (and Miles if you're up for it) - How about we leave Cobham Services at 8, to hit Winchester Services at about 8:45 via the M3?
GPX route attached. And if you prefer Google Maps, [url=
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/51.11 ... 172222!3e0]this should do it.
I do hope some of you are running Satnavs! I can't see the Atoms chugging along behind me for very long...

Re: Season Kick Off Run - Sunday 21st June
I’ve contacted Tom (Horton) and Chris (Mullin), and they’re up for it. We’ll meet you at Cobham services at 8am. Wouldn’t it be a slightly more enjoyable route, going down the A3 to the Hogs Back, then past Aldershot and onto the A287 which will take us to the M3 at Hook. With the average speed monitoring on the M3 from the M25 junction, it’ll probably be just as fast if not a touch quicker. I don’t think there’s any restrictions from Hook to Winchester services. What do you reckon?
Re: Season Kick Off Run - Sunday 21st June
yes Sven thats a much better route
Re: Season Kick Off Run - Sunday 21st June
Sure Sven. I was just looking at Google Maps trying to figure it out, but I'm more than happy to follow you!
Does that go past where you were thinking Mutley?
Should be quite a gathering...
