Normandy Landings, 16-19 September 2016
This one's becoming something of a tradition.
We're heading out to Normandy from 16-19 Sept. For the great country roads, historic D-Day coastline and nice little places to stay. Oh, and the cider. Overnight ferry from Portsmouth on Thursday 15th (dep 22.45) to Caen, then back on the Monday (dep 16.30). We usually get a decent dinner before the ferry out, within 30 minutes of the port. Hotels to be announced soon.
In the past, the weather has been heavy showers right through to four days of blazing sunshine.
Stick your name down if you're vaguely/very interested.
Drivers so far:

Julian Richards
Nick Mason

Last time we did this run, that's exactly what we got. Four days of sun, 20-22 degrees. However, if the weather isn't great, there's plenty to do and see indoors, because of the WW2 history.

Brittany Ferries. Although Julian says cabins are sold out for the outgoing ferry, so we might have to change plans or cancel.

Julian says there are cabins on the Le Havre crossing, which is a possible route with similar timings, but is an economy boat. That's no big deal. We'll confirm soon.
If cabins are filling fast, the crossings will have to be booked ASAP.

Le Havre back west to Caen is about an hour, so we're still pretty close to the original starting point of the D-Day beaches.

I would have loved to go there with the 1942 Willys Jeep I owned a while ago.
