The Swiss Alps 2014 (or 'Carry On Up The Pass')

Post by Steve Gibson » Thu Sep 12, 2013 12:59 pm

All,

Back in 2008 a first Atom trip to the Swiss Alps was organised. And it was good. Very, very good.

Then came 2010, and there was a return to the Alps once more. It too, was very good.

Next year, the 10th birthday year for Atom Club, there are whisperings of going back for a third visit. Most likely in early August, when the sun is out and the roads are (generally) dry.

If you'd be interested in going, add your name/comments/filth below. If there are more than three people interested, it will most likely happen. If you haven't been, you haven't driven some of the most fantastic mountain passes in Europe. It must be done at least once before your time on earth is over. The meringues are merely a bonus.

New little person may scupper too many date options but keep me posted as I'm very interested. Have done the Alps on the bike numerous times and now was to do it in the Atom!

You had me at meringues.

Having said that when I heard on the radio that Lucozade had been sold for £1.3billion my first thought was "must have been in a shop in Switzerland."

I'm thinking Wednesday August 6th to Sunday 17th. I've not checked that with any other events for next year though. Keeping hotel changes to a minimum where possible – it's easier to do two/three night stops in places.

Agreed Steve, there are more than enough passes to do from one base normally before moving on. It then gives people the option of doing as much or as little as they like...

I'm interested in this. There aren't many of these passes that I won't have ridden over at some time. It would be nice to drive them. I agree with staying 2 or 3 days in one location before moving. It's worked for us on bike trips as packing up every morning can be a PITA.

As for dates you might well get a better deal in early July. All the high passes should be open and the weather should be as good. We did a bike trip in late June in blazing sunshine and a week later I was in the same locale in a car, driving iin a blizzard.
