'Sunday Drivers' - A weekend of the best roads in Wales - 7-8th July 2012

Post by toms » Mon Mar 26, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi all

Atom Club member Ben Daniel has come to the rescue for the cancelled Pembrey track event!  We were planning to run a road trip on the Saturday anyway but given the fantastic amount and variation of Welsh roads it would seem only sensible to carry this into a full weekend of Welsh exploration with a good old fashioned dinner and knees up, Atom Club style, on the Saturday evening.

The start point will be Tesco car park in Pontypool NP4 6JU on the Saturday morning, time TBC.  From there we will take in some great roads and scenery, finishing the day at Llangennith on the Gower Peninsula.  I have a list of accommodation that Ben has given to me so just ping me an e-mail and I'll get that over to you if required.  We do need to start thinking about booking fairly soon as hotels and B&B's are going to get full up pretty quickly at that time of year and we need to get numbers for the Saturday night meal.  Ben has sorted off road Atom parking at one location in the village too....

Following a not too early and nice leisurely start we'll take in some more great roads and photo opportunities, finishing up back at Pontypool.

Any questions - please ask!

Who's in?

Big problem!
Just tried to book accommodation and have been informed that nowhere on the Gower will allow someone to just book one night in July! They will only take bookings for whole weeks.
We tried to book at Blas Gwyr.
Anyone else had any issues like this?
If this is the case it will kill the weekend for most of us.

Camping at Llangenith is awesome.....IF the weather is good! Hill End camp site - one of the best in the UK, right by the beach.

At the other end of the scale, the luxury option is http://www.fairyhill.net/

As Lee says there is always camping; or you could head over on Friday night and make a bit more of a weekend of it?  I've just booked Bremmel Cottage, no problem with staying one night there.  They have two rooms left reserved only for us; but you need to say you are coming with Ben Daniel on the Ariel Atom trip or they won't let you have one.....

Although having suggested camping, im not sure where a tent would fit in an Atom......

Stating the obvious, in the passenger footwell. I've done Cornwall from London, camping gear and boxer, also Le Mans X2 with a passenger + camping gear. Not perfect but manageable. I also strap gear to the outside of the car, fold away chairs etc.

On this one I would rather be in a hotel but if its not to be I will camp, see you all later in the year.

Regards

Julian

Update and message from Ben - I have managed to book a meal for approx. 25 people at the Greyhound Inn, for 1930hrs on Sat 7th July.

The Greyhound is on the way to Langennith (approx 2 miles West of Llanridian), so meal then get to accomodation, then into the Kings Head for lots of beer!

Sounds good!  My current list of attendees is

Tom + Gemma
Ben + Angela
Kezzie
Deep Durks
Sam
Julian + 1
Michies + Fiona
Russ + Sarah

Is everyone sorted for accomodation?

I've managed to book a double room at Bremmel Cottage and they have a twin room still available.
Thanks for the info Tom :tu:
