Chris Evans - Carfest 25th - 26th August 2012

Post by julian » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:36 am

Hi all,

If anyone listens to Chris Evans in the morning then you will be aware of this event that he is organising for Children in Need. I emailed him ages ago offering the services of the club to get involved in the Hill Climb and or Static Display. I didn't hear anything but the official web site for the event is now live. It looks like the Hill Climb is for Ferrari,s, F1 cars etc.

Anyway, I have filled out the short form volunteering the club in support of the event and Children in Need. I don't know how many cars they will want if at all but can we start a list of anyone who wants to get involved.

The web site is www.carfest.org

I am happy to be involved, however will not be going as a paying spectator, it costs more to attend than the Goodwood Festival of Speed which is mental IMO

I am not sure how that side of things works but I imagine you would still have to pay as a spectator despite volunteering your car.

There are plenty of other things going on, ie big name bands etc and of course it is for charity, never had you down for a tight git yeatsy!!

Having read the Carfest web site in more detail, they are looking for groups of 7 cars. Ariel is listed on the site as one of the classics so for those interested in a weekend of festival fun we may get selected to attend. It doesn't matter if we get more than 7, some are bound to drop out.

I'd be up for this as it's reasonably local
Julian, add me to the list.

I can fully understand Ben's comments re cost as it does seem excessive for a small (Chris's own words) congregation of car enthusiasts but it is for charity not that that should give them a right to charge a premium though IMHO

£60 does sound a little steep I have to admit - and only a third going to the charity.

I would have come though but am on summer hols - shame - has anybody asked the factory ?

I emailed Tom ages ago when I first wrote to Chris Evans.

I suppose the best way of doing the event and value for money would be to camp for the weekend giving access to the festival both days for £85 per person.

Would be great to have the factory involved but they must get approached all the time.

Anyway let's see how many names we get.

I am sure they get approached alot but this is a fairly major event which I would expect them to be present at.

You know I am only joking Ben, I know you are not tight having had many a beer with you. What do you think about the camping option, looks like you get a pitch with showers and toilets plus access to the festival for the two days. Doesn't sound bad value at all.

I agree with you Trig, factory involvement would we great, V8, Mungen, I imagine we could definitely get involved in the hill climb with Ariel behind us. Not sure how the organisers would feel though, pissing all over the ferraris etc, etc.

No doubt Tom will be along in due course with his thoughts.

Very much my neck of the woods so me and the mrs could be interested, especially in a bit of camping! Would be great to be involved in the climbs too.

Keep us in touch with this one!  :vroom:
