2.4 engines

Post by Charlie » Sun Oct 16, 2022 1:02 pm

I have noticed while browsing the net some atoms had 310bhp I presume supercharged engines but they also say they are 2.4 instead of 2.0l can anyone clarify which models had the 2.4 whether it was an option and just out of curiousity which is considered best?

Most, (but not all) of the 2016 onwards 3.5 Atoms and all Nomads had the 2.4 litre K24 Honda engine.

The 2.0 litre K20 puts our more peak power, but the K24 has more torque, hence it being used for the Nomad.

Generally, the K20 is considered the more desirable engine because it revs higher and puts out more peak power, especially when supercharged, but both are great engines.

The Atom 3 2.0 litre K20, when initially supercharged, made 300bhp but later, a factory ECU firmware update updated it to 310bhp.

Hey,
I agree with John Sherrrer and Fastlane…
K20 engines have high rpm performance with their shorter stroke.
While K24 have more torque at the lower end of the rpm with their slightly larger bores and longer strokes.
I hope I have this The correct way round ✌🏼

Yes that's correct the K24 is 19mm longer in the stroke.

👍🏼 Ian. Thanks.
Off the top of my head is the K20 something like 87mm stroke and 87mm bore?

Haltech also have an excellent video on what makes the non-turbo K20 so good, including a full tear down:

Haltech has been at the cutting edge of engine management technology since it first opened its doors in 1986. Today, Haltech has six international offices with headquarters based in Sydney, Australia., they are mentioned a lot on HPacademy although they are New Zealand based.
