I do so love a gadget!

Post by autobackup » Thu Aug 27, 2020 1:34 pm

The new Norshire rechargeable battery tyre inflator - direct from Hong Kong.

www.norshire.com

It will also run direct from a 12V connector should the battery not be sufficient

I backed this project early last year on Indiegogo - it is only about 11 months behind the original projected delivery date of October 2019 but I must say it is an absolutely lovely bit of kit, really well built (rather heavy) but works a treat!

However there are a couple of rather strange anomalies - it is possible to select BAR, PSI, KG/cm2, MPa or KPa but rather bizarrely while I can select 1.1 bar (16 psi) and 1.3 bar (19 psi) I cannot (using the PSI scale setting) select 16 psi or 19 psi - it jumps from 15 psi to 17 psi and 18 psi to 20 psi - pour quoi?

That's really neat! Like it. With many tyres to check periodically (and they -always- need some adjustment), that'd be very handy indeed.

I love the advert on their website too. I can't tell you the number of times I've been stuck by a lake with an attractive young lady, sat in a partially inflated dingy........problem solved!!! ;-)

Joking aside - I wonder if the firmware is upgradable ? - the strangeness with the psi and bar scale would drive me nuts, otherwise looks pretty slick for the money.

Those badly kerbed wheels in the video is bothering me....any way more importantly, if you cannot select the correct psi, what about in bar? are you able to select 1.1 and 1.3 bar respectively?

EDIT: just reread your message, seems ok if you can select bar - just a pain to convert to psi in your head because everyone uses psi not bar.

Here is a demo:

Ordered from Amazon, thanks for the tip.

Cheers
Simon

'Everyone uses psi'

I wonder why they put bar?

Alan

Have you ever used a garage on the continent to check your tyre pressures?

- good luck in finding a garage airpump with a PSI display gauge!

Actually only the UK and USA generally use PSI as standard - virtually everywhere else uses BAR.

This is why you should find a label attached to the driver's door frame in every modern car displaying both - it is required for the issue of the certificate of conformity - which requires both PSI and BAR to be displayed.

UK garages offering air pumps should either display, or have available on request, a PSI/BAR conversion chart.

Car tyre manufacturers actually mandate tyre pressures in BAR which are then converted to the closest PSI equivalent where necessary!

AB, I think that was my point, though you're response is rather better researched!

I got my tyre pump today and so far I am really impressed with it. I don't seem to have the issue of not being able to select 16 psi and 19 psi. However, how have you found the accuracy of the pressure reader? I have an old fashioned Sealey and the Sealey appears to be +2 psi over the Norshire. I think actually it is the Sealey that is inacurate here. I know the Norshire can be calibrated if required, I may get it checked.

In this picture, I inflated the front to 16 psi. Then used the Sealey to measure the tyre pressure and it read 18 psi.

Simon

Congratulations - you have actually used your new Norshire - so far I have simply admired it!! :pop:

But that aside I would tend to agree with you in regard to the accuracy comparison with the Sealey which only has a diaphragm measurement system and is relatively a very crude device. The Sealey sort of devices tend to be most inaccurate when measuring relatively low pressures - they are much better at measuring higher pressures.

But I'm glad that you agree with my assessment of the quality of the Norshire which, given it's solid construction and weight could also double as a very effective cosh!

As a backer of the original concept it only cost me US$45 delivered (late!)

Indeed, the quality is very good as are the attachments. It's always funny reading Chinese instructions that have clearly been translated to English. That said, it is a pretty simple operation that warrants little introduction. It is perfect for the track in that you may not have your tow car or a garage like at perhaps Cadwell Park and fits in the "boot" in it's nice velvet style bag :) I could still charge it using my Atom if I really needed to using the supplied USB cable. I believe it has 10 mins of inflation time on a single charge.

That is a very good price, I paid £47.99 from Amazon delivered via prime so "free" delivery.

Thanks again for the tip!

Didn't you also get a rather long 12v cigarette lighter socket cable to power the Norshire directly if need be?

Yes I did. That cable will be ok for my other cars but for the Atom I don't have a 12v cigarette power socket because I don't smoke :roflp:
