Ouch.

Presume you're ok.

Car shouldn't be written off, no?

Yup, pretty obvious, now you say it... :(

When insurance companies write them off, who generally gets the salvage? Anyone on here?

Vultures, circling...

I got out of it without a scratch or whatsoever. In fact, it's me in the background, waiting for the tow truck...

Yep, glad to hear that there's no injuries.  Wouldn't be surprised if it is written off unfortunately.  What happened?

Cheers, Ross.

It's not technically written off... What usually happens is that everything gets stripped off and checked and anything broken is replaced. Then it all gets put on to a new chassis - at the owner's cost less whatever the insurance pays out less excess. The factory have negotiated a deal with insurers to make this a fixed cost (it used to be about £10-14k to do this)

Glad you're OK anyway, AA... I was chatting to (name drop) Steve Cropley last night and he was praising the Atom's strength

Steve Cropley, top bloke. Used to be the Editor of CAR magazine when I first started buying it 25 odd years ago. Still writes for them, I think. And Autocar.

Anyway, miles off topic. Get me coat.

It was raining cats and dogs, so I was driving at +/- 120 km/h, when the back slid to the right. My first guess was a patch of oil or dieselfuel, but a witness saw a small wooden beam being thrown from under the car. I first hit the concrete wall on the left, then went into the rails at the right side of the road. Finally, a passing truck took the nose off and sent me back against the rails. This all happened in a few seconds and was rather - er - scary...

The car is at Debussere now, so I have to wait for the verdict...

Here's another pic, taken from the back.

Good to see that the car kept you safe in such a horrible accident.  If you were on a motorcycle I dont think you would have fared as well.

Yes, nobody will ever hear me make a complaint about the Atom frame - or the seatbelts...
