Reminds me of one I went along between Austria and Switzerland about 35 years ago but I can't be sure.

I think you're right as you've just jogged my memory (it was 1971).

I seem to remember going along this road, or one very much like it, going from Switzerland to Italy through the Brenner Pass.

The Brenner-Autobahn was only half constructed and just ended in the middle of nowhere so I think this is the road it was replacing.

If I'm right you can see why.

I'm just remembering those old movies and such that were shot in Italy and the big panning camera shots in some of them.. The mountain and the way the road was cut into the hill reminded me of that.
