how to get newly fitted wings approved by German TUV?

Post by frankboeh » Wed Oct 13, 2021 4:10 pm

Hi guys,

I have bought a wing kit for my Atom 3.5, which I want to use on public road as well on track. The car is currently in a car workshop and wings have just been fitted today. Really beautiful by the way :-)

The car is street legal in Germany (or has been before today). The license states all kinds of different important parts like brake types/sizes, etc, and I worry that the new wings will need to be added. The police would probably never notice the upgrade, but the car is also damage insured and I don't want to risk loosing coverage because they say that I am driving with "illegal" upgrades.

I have a document from Ariel stating that these are original parts intended for that car. But the workshop said that none of the parts even have type numbers printed on them, and that document would also not be enough to 'convince' the TUV specialist. They have already talked with them, and we are all unsure what to do. On the other hand, you can buy that car new withe wings included, and then the TUV also would approve the entire car and not look for particular part certificates or approval documents.

My question is, how are you guys dealing with this in Germany? I know that there are a few road legal winged Atoms out there. Has anyone successfully put a wing upgrade through TUV?

Cheers Frank
