Retro-fit lights

Post by r500sac » Thu Jun 30, 2022 1:48 pm

I've recently bought a Nomad with no light bar or whip lights, so I thought I would get a quote from Ariel to retro fit.
Parts, plus VAT:
Whip £250
Light bar £295
Lights £780
Loom £125

Fitting, plus VAT:
Bar £750
Isolation loom £150
Whips £375

Ignore the whip lights, I won't bother with that for the money. I thought about getting the light bar and loom, and then fitting some Lazer light bars myself, but I am a bit concerned with 10 hours labour to fit the light bar! Has anyone else had this done?

Thanks

I haven’t, mine came with them fitted to me but the previous owner did have them fitted and I was astounded to see how much they were,

Personally I like the rounded lamp on top of the Nomad, I’ve also used Lazer lights before and these are another level compared to the Hellas for performance but on looks the round ones win over.

They do look pretty intricate and time consuming BUT for some one who works on these things daily it shouldn’t take 10 hours !

I’m looking at whips also, from AllieExpress ! They are the factory ones with LED in the bottom and a fibre optic whip as oposed to the chip fairly light looking lights that are cheaper and more decoratively orientated.
Only problem is postage is £140 from Chynah !

Chalky, I'd be interested in getting whips from China if you want to share the postage?

I’ll look at the cost again, I think the whips were £65 each, they are detachable via a spring loaded collett and look fairly straightforward to wire in ?

I’ll drop the link here so you can have a look,

There’s a video attached which shows the LED housed in the base unit lighting up the pole from beneath as per the factory look.

The base itself looks pretty substantial and I quite like the idea of being able to remove them although I’m not sure how long that will last ?

It may be worth a punt tho ?

I have a set of round Ariel lights that I took off my Nomad when I replaced them with a light Bar.
I am on 07768 455 456 if you are interested. They dont have the light Bar mounting rail.
Stephen.

Morning Stephen
Thanks for the reply, sorry I've been slow in coming back to you.
I think the main problem is the mounting bar, not the lights, as Ariel want £1,250 to supply and fit that. I assume the high cost is because they need to add the fixings to the chassis.
Like you, if I sorted the bar, I would probably prefer some Lazer light bars anyway, but not at this price!
