Canvas roof

Hi all,

I'm going to get a canvas roof made for the Nomad to keep the sun off for Euro-trips etc.

Before I reinvent the wheel, has anybody already done it successfully and got advice about where to go for it / what works well etc? Something like the one Art (Mud Nomad) had would be perfect, but I think he said that was done in Poland.

Thanks in advance!

Ollie

Ollie, if you make any progress to get a Mud Nomad variant made I'm happy to order one. May bring the price down.

I am also interested in getting a roof. Plan to contact some local trimmers so will also let you know if I get anywhere.

Very neat and looks secure. Looks like it wraps around in a double skin with zips and velcro? Did they take a template to replicate and how much?

Yes it attaches as you say. It will still leak between the top of the screen and the soft top but you could find a rubber filler strip somewhere I guess. They have kept a template. I'm not sure about price as they do other work for my company but it isn't cheap! I think it will be at least £750-850.

Theres also two large pockets on the inside which you could further sub divide / customise.

Thanks, I have been quoted £300-£400 by a local company, who are having the car in July. Ollie, who started this, is also looking into one. At least we now have more options.

I had set made a while ago. I was dong anything up to 900 miles in a day and these kit was excellent as it could easily be packed away. I think for a summer rain cover the area round the wing mirrors is just a s important as the roof.

I’ve had a hood and storm cover made for my Nomad this week and very happy with the results. Hood was £470 in black mohair and cover £460 in 4oz pu nylon.

The company is All Wheel Trim Ltd in Witney
, Oxfordshire 01993 776800. They are willing to make more but, as they didn’t make a template, would either need your Nomad or, if they have a batch of orders, then I am happy for them to borrow my hood/cover to use as patterns. They are busy so not sure on lead times. I have no affiliation with them so just a happy customer.

A couple more of the hood from inside. The rear is tensioned by straps with velcro loops around the frame. The front is fixed by slotting a loop of material between frame and screen into which is inserted 2 rods.

Hope this helps anyone looking for a hood solution. Feel free to ask any questions.

Is the storm cover quick to fit? Not so much as to keep the weather out, more badly behaved kids (and parents) who think its ok for them to climb into the "cute buggy".

Yes, it is easy and quick to fit. What you describe is actually the main reason for wanting a cover for the Nomad. I had several instances with kids and adults thinking it was OK to climb on and in the Atom!
