Good idea. I’ve been looking to possibly fit something like that to the frame of an atom. Without drilling of course 😊

Thanks, 4 small holes in the plastic isn’t going to hurt or devalue, plastic gromets would fill them should I ever take them off.

Just ordered an Orbit Top Case from Hepco & Becker, still to figure out where and how it’s going to attach...

I sacrificed a spare wheel for my lockable waterproof lunchbox ;-)

Mounting them on the fenders will change the unsprung mass which will affect the handling. Probably not an issue if you only put light items but worth bearing in mind.

Like Karl I've mounted a top box instead of the spare wheel (not much use if you don't have a jack) and I strap a pair of kriega bags to the side if I want to tour.

Just ordered a 'spineless' (not-) wheel carrier like you have Karl V . I have a BMW motorbike topbox which will go on there nicely. Otherwise - after all where else can you put all toilet rolls on a Nomad. . ?

So the factory response to my request for a 'spineless' spare wheel carrier surprised me: "Yes we have one in stock". I easily ordered another base plate - identical to the one on my BMW bike from SHAD. Four holes drilled in the wheel carrier plate and I can now clip the bike top box on and off. It locks on with the same key that locks the box. I would have to admit that I prefer the boxy utilitarian GIVI box Karl V l has which suits the rugged look of the Nomad well. But the more streamlined SHAD also looks much more at home on the Nomad than I expected - and hey - I already had it. These photos show it in its un-expanded state - I think about 35 litres. However it cleverly expands to 56 litres.

And just the job for popping out for that essential shopping. . .

Looking good Chris! I've been surprised how useful these extra carrying boxes have been. I'm sure you'll quickly come to rely on it ;-)

I've made a note to take some pictures of my 'touring' luggage set-up - you know, the week's worth of clothes and what-not.

Once the car is back from Crewkerne, I'll try to add that into this useful thread as well.

It went down at the beginning of March for a set of rear Alcons Trigger, then got locked in when the factory closed.

Probably just as well really. I'm sure the temptation over the past couple of months would have been too much for me.

The challenge is... Do I really want to sit on a cross-London train to get to Crewkerne to pick it up (when we're allowed)?

Now's probably a good time to consider 'sharing' the factory's trailering service in trips to and from Crewkerne. Dilemmas a plenty.

Hopefully we'll be back to the new-normal soon.

OK, so as promised - I mean threatened - I now have the car back from Crewkerne after 3 months of lockdown and wanted to add my tuppence to this very useful topic of luggage solutions for Nomads - good work Mr G!

Permanent storage aside, I also run with a 'touring' option like nfcf mentioned.

It wasn't by design BTW. By chance, when I was mounting the Givi case on the spare wheel carrier (quite blindly at the time), the optimal / only position was around 9" away from the rear framework. It happens - by chance - to sit directly over the 'engine bay' and far enough back to allow the case to be opened without gravity crushing my fingers every time I opened the case. But there is still a gap between box and rear frame...

So I took advantage of that gap to weave a lashing strap to form a base between the spare wheel legs. The picture may not show it, but the spare wheel legs and lashing strap are fairly well aligned horizontally.

Why? Well it serves as an extra area to stash an occasion-use bag when not all your pants and socks will fit into the permanent case. Personally, I opted for a 60L dry bag, based mainly on the width and length. Plus, it was only £40!

It fills the gap nicely. Has not once resulted in soggy pants and 'looks the part'. More importantly, I have never lost a pair of pants on the M4. Well, not in the Nomad at least...

That's all I have to contribute I'm afraid. May your future tours be soggy-pant free and hope this helps inspires other ideas for luggage solutions on the Nomad.

Heaven forbid we Nomad owners need to result to bags strapped to the outside of the car like those daft Atom owners ;-)
