Take a look at what's lurking in the background of this image from the Ariel news page about the first Atom 4 deliveries...Nomad R?

Yeah heard that rumoured.

As if the wait time wasn’t long enough already :)

Interested in what they’ll do to differentiate it.

Sadev? Looks suspiciously like the Nomad in the background of this video without a visible gear stick - https://youtu.be/2WlZGIeRVjc

One the first photo... the nomad logo at the top centre of the windscreen appears to have something like an R in red after it.

Good spot! Also seems to be a whacking great 'R' on the bonnet?

Oh. I thought they were all unpainted.

In that case, I'm giving up this game of 'spot the difference' until such time as I see some charge pods tucked up under the front suspension.

The great big R on the bonnet is a clue! Good spot. :tu:

I reckon its gotta be using a remapped high torque turbo unit. No point tinkering with the old 2.4. We know it will be replaced in the near future, why develop a higher boost version of the old engine when the new turbo motor is ready and has higher torque already.

I reckon it'll be a 320+ bhp turbo motor. And it should suit the car perfectly! 8)

I did think that... but historically Ariel will give it a new model number, so Nomad 2... just like they did with the Atom 4.

My thinking if they do though is the changes could be quite widespread, boost control, traction control, new dash etc. etc.

Ariel also have previous for swapping engines mid type. As you know they swapped to and back out of the 2.4s in Atom 3.5 without going to Atom4. The k24 is NOT the same engine and the k20. Very different delivery, and the 2.4 doesn't like as much boost even with a charge cooler. :td:

A Nomad with ohlins, and big brakes isn't different enough in my book. Needs more ponies to be an R IMO.

Anyway we shall see. 2 cars now need a TG review! ;) I hope it has the turbo. Could be a GREAT fit. 8)

I totally agree, but think that was more because they got caught out... ie. honda pulled the plug on the K20 before they were ready with the Atom 4, rather than by design. And if that was the case, I'd expect the change to be across all upcoming Nomads, not just the R.

I agree, it will need more power. I'll be honest, I'm surprised at how much slower a SC'd nomad feels compared to the Atom. It isn't slow, it just feels like it is, because you're less connected. I think that'll be a challenge with the Nomad R.

And your fit comment is where I think the problem may lay... you know they had to extend the rear of the Atom 4, to squeeze the new engine in... I doubt they can just drop it into the Nomad without very similar modifications... and then suddenly it becomes a new frame.

Dunno... all speculation.

Phil get your car on the rollers! Get it checked. It might have issues!

I am still concerned over the 2.4's in Atoms and Nomads. We've had very interesting results when tested. Only 2 sets of results so far but both were under-whelming to say the least! :(

My money (all £2.65 of it!) is on the R being a re-map of sorts with the existing 2.4 SC engine; with a Nomad 2 seeing the turbo engine, after some chassis changes, and a move to the Atom 4 parts bin: AP brakes, dash unit, MBE engine management system, fuel filler cap, brake and clutch pedals etc.
