Nomad R
Re: Nomad R
Thats good to know on the durability on the white frame, though I plan to PPF whatever colour I end up choosing with ceramic coating, to help protect it and make cleaning slightly easier.
Are the Atom 4 seats good enough, or is worth the extra for carbon seats. I know on the Atom 4 Tom said the standard seats fit better as designed for the car rather than carbon.
Also any views on the rear bumper, as I doubt I ever go proper off road, more just hooning around fields. Is that just extra weight, does really add much protection..

Nomad R, 991.2 Turbo Cab, Macan Turbo and Fiat 500 Riva edition
Re: Nomad R
Rear bumper no protection at all. It’s stylistic, adds a couple of tow points and somewhere to mount a hilift Jack.
You’d be better off with a sump guard than a rear bumper. Is suspect you’ll also want some different tyres, at the very least geolanders, not road focussed A052’s

Re: Nomad R
Afternoon all. Spent the morning with Henry and the Nomad R. Not sure if anyone else has had the pleasure of going out in one yet but let me tell you - it’s incredible!!
The turn of pace, the immediacy of the acceleration, the noise of the transmission and engine. Such an experience. But what amazed me most was how compliant it was. The grip was phenomenal, the brakes so strong, everything was superb!
Spec is 99% there. Gone for the ohlins, windscreen, Hand brake, stainless fittings etc etc. Nothing too extravagant but then it has all the good stuff!
Colour - at the moment I’m saying match the press car. It’s the classic R colour scheme. I fear you could get it so wrong as well. But time to play yet!
Anyway to the other lucky 4. I fail to see you will be disappointed!

Re: Nomad R
Hi, I went down 2 weeks ago, as you, spent the morning with Henry, and experienced very similar.
Going to spec mine soon, originally colour scheme as Press car, but white Frame etc etc is too close to my Atom

Re: Nomad R
Here’s a question to my fellow R future owners - do you have any concern that the R could buck the normal residual trend when it comes to future value?
Could the specialist nature mean less prospective future owners or is that outweighed by being ultra exclusive?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m buying it to keep for a good few years, but the man-maths and getting the wife over the line was a result of the ‘won’t lose a penny’ claim I made!
Running costs aside that is!
Crystal ball gazing time folks.....

Re: Nomad R
I’m not sure we’ll ‘go wrong’ with it, but being honest, I don’t see it being worth much more, as I believe the collectibility, desirability etc is strongly influenced by the Journalist and Media, and it hasn’t had 5 star blistering write ups..... when you think back to the 3.5R being released......

Re: Nomad R
That's a tricky question to answer!
I guess the answer will be based largely around the 'specialist nature' part of the question, which in turn will determine the list of potential buyers and therefore the price they can demand.
What is the speciality of the Nomad R? Or to ask the question another way - why did you buy it?
If the answer is exclusivity, then you probably want to keep it in mint condition in a garage. If it's to track, then power and as little weight as possible. Green laning? Probably under body protection and decent tyres with 15"wheels. Gravel rally? 83 layers of PPF ;-)
This may sound like a daft question, but I'm being serious and may even help you guys think about tech specs and options.
There's been a lot of talk recently about 'must have' options. Maybe start with a plan of what you'll use the car for (investment / hooning / tracking) and go out and have fun! Or just look at it if it's an investment ;-)

Re: Nomad R
I absolutely plan on using it! Road and track really, not so much off road plans though, I dint think it’s that suited.
I’d certainly be over the moon should I get to run it for 3/4 years and get most my money back, I’m not investing in it to sit clean in a garage! I don’t expect to make money, but would be nice not to only get half back in 4 years time but c’est la vie!
My attraction in the first instance was ‘Nomad turned up to 11!’ . Exclusivity is great, but not everything. The power and acceleration are addictive as is the handling and brakes. I do believe a regular SC Nomad would be easier to Luce with but do any of us but these things as they are easy to live with? It’s about the experience for me
Interesting on the reviews in the press for sure, some love, some say they don’t get it, but I loved the thing!

Nomad R
Here’s my rough thinking:
If you had 70k to spend, you could easily buy an Atom 4, which would be epically fast on track.
And if you’re wanted to do some off-roading type stuff 70k on a SC Nomad would work.
The Nomad R seems to sit in the middle, but precariously so, as it can’t really do proper off roading, and wouldn’t be as fast as an Atom on track.
It’ll still be a lot of fun, but almost a niche within a niche.
I think you’ll get most of your money back (don’t forget Ariels 8% charge if you sell through them), but the sale might take a fair while to find someone who wants to spend a serious amount on something very specific.
The above’s my view. If you’ve already tried an Atom and a Nomad and thinks the Nomad R fits your plans better than either, I get it.

Re: Nomad R
I definitely think it’s a tricky one. If mainly Track, then buy an Atom, if you want to ‘let’s off road’ then a true Nomad, but perhaps if you want a little mix, with mostly road use, as let’s be honest, most of the time we’re on the road, even if it is driving to ‘green lanes’ or ‘circuits’ then the Notom R may work, but that’s why I think the gearing needs to be right. I’d be happy with the same as my Atom, but Henry suggested leaving 1,2 & 3 as the demo, but I feel they were too close....
where I live is full of pot holes and generally crap roads, so I’m looking forward to not stressing, and I’m slowly befriending people with acres of fields, so I can play in.
Being honest, I’m a bit disappointed that you can’t 100% hoon in it, like a Nomad, but I’m sure I will find some middle ground.....
I’m not going to worry about resale, as if I do, I will be conscious about mileage etc etc. Enjoy it as much as you can, my 3.5R has over 7000 miles now, and I hope to get 57,000 miles on it before considering selling

Re: Nomad R
Yes, exactly that! ^
I bought the Nomad because the roads round here are like an off-road adventure most of the time. I do go 'off road' 3 or 4 times a year, but mainly street driving. When out with the lads, I catch the Atoms at speed bumps, cattle grids and roundabouts. And when Sir Nick took us on a high speed adventure through some back roads in Wales, the Nomad ruled the roost and - yet again - the Atoms were in the way
Happy days...

Re: Nomad R
Great video Karl, that looks like where I live with the single track lanes etc
What’s the gearing like on the Nomads, at 80mph, what does the Rev counter show?
