Spotlights Wind resistance

Post by Trigger » Thu Oct 04, 2018 11:07 am

Now I was not expecting the Nomad to be slippery BUT the lights on the top (which I think are an essential item) do really cause wind resistance. Just on the motorway you can hear the noise and with a headwind.......

On track the car tops out at 125mph and as a supercharged car I do feel there should be more in it.

I find I accelerate way faster than most cars upto 80-90 but then I start to struggle. I have done Goodwood, Bedford and Zandvoort and they all have longish straights.

I have looked at potentially removing the lights occasionally - not something I would do regularly though. Taking the light bar off requires loosening or removing the windscreen - way too much faff.
So after chatting with the guys at the factory it seems if you remove the zip ties, and unplug the cable basically each light is held by a single bolt. The bolt can fall into the light but if careful it shouldnt be toooooo hard. We will see.

Anyway at some stage i will test this as I reckon a fair amount of top speed can be gained.

Here's a daft idea...

Maybe experiment with twisting the lights 180 degrees to start with?

Won't be as effective as no lights, but I bet a lot more aerodynamic without the risk of your nuts dropping.

Worse case scenario, you can blind the Atoms behind you trying to overtake ;-)
