I recently had a scary incident in my Nomad - braking hard, there was a loud bang and a soft brake pedal. It turned out the front left brake carrier had sheared completely off, leaving the caliper dragging along the road held on only by the brake line. I sent the car to Ariel, and they found hairline cracks in the front right carrier too. Their opinion is that the bolts may have been over tightened by a previous owner.
It may therefore be worth checking yours for any cracking, especially if you think the carriers may have been fitted by somebody other than Ariel at some point.
(I have Alcon brakes as you can probably see, but I assume the carrier is the same for all types.)
