Good luck in getting from the A34 Tothill services to the Ace café in an hour!

Don't forget that the M4 is currently being converted to a 'Smart motorway' with a 50mph average speed limit after J8/9 all the way into London and on the bit that's finished (J12 - J8/9) the limit is 60mph.

2 weeks ago it took me 55 minutes to drive from my UK house in Cold Ash (which is 3 miles east of Newbury) to LHR T5 (exactly 40 miles)!

Motorways and Atoms are not a lot of fun. Maybe we should aim for 9:30!

I did T5 to Newbury in xx:xx last week, but it was late at night as my flight was delayed (again), but seeing as Ariel don’t fit sped limiting cruise control, agree the M4 is not a great option for us.

Winmoz

Not many viable alternatives in the way of routes from Tothill Services on the A34 to the Ace café.

If the intention is to avoid the M4 :

Routing north of the M4 via Newbury and the A4 to Theale, through Reading, Caversham, Twyford, Maidenhead, Slough (all the interminable traffic lights) is worse than the M4.

Routing South of the M4 via Newbury and the A4 to Theale, Shinfield, Arborfield, Wokingham, Ascot, Windsor, Colnbrook to join the A4 past LHR is not much better!

Both of the alternative routes above would likely take most of 2 hours or more!

I spent 35 years driving from first Pangbourne (from before the M4 was extended beyond Maidenhead Thicket!) then Cold Ash to work out of LHR and there isn't any route, diversion or rat-run that I haven't had to use sometime or other due to some traffic circumstance - they are all bloody awful!!
