What the hell is happening with TomTom???

Entertainment and stuff that has nothing to do with the models themselves...

What the hell is happening with TomTom???

Post by Bruce Fielding » Wed May 04, 2016 11:07 am

I've had to phone them three times in the last week.

Apparently, their latest update doesn't work. Their route planner doesn't work. And my device keeps rebooting (Rider 400 - almost brand new)

I've been assured that their technical team is working on it, but suppose they don't fix it by the time I go abroad???

Seriously, NOT impressed...

Just been told to do this

How crap is that on a new device???

And how dare they intimate that it's not their fault...
If your navigation device doesn't start, or reboots or displays a cross after you switch it on, the software on the navigation device is not installed correctly.

I've come to the conclusion that I MUCH prefer the Garmin Zumo range of 'all weather' Satnavs as I find nothing intuitive on the TomTom that I had fitted by the factory last year and have subsequently regretted fitting.

I like the fact that the new https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/on-the-road/motorcycles/zumo-595lm/prod536397.html also, rather usefully, has a headphone socket and also an inbuilt MP3 player (it can accept preloaded music/podcast SD cards!!) and, if you have a subscription can even stream Spotify with a smartphone active data link

Finally it can be linked with up to 4 Garmin tyre pressure sensors (sold separately) if required!

I am seriously considering drop kicking my TomTom into touch and replacing it with this Garmin

That looks amazing!

It's a lot for the money, but it's a lot of money - £549! That's £200 more than the TomTom. Then again it's a £320 paperweight at the moment

Bruce

The Zumo 595 has only just been released (April) and, as yet, isn't available on Amazon UK - the £549 price is the RRP on the Garmin site but already it can be found somewhat cheaper on some of the other UK specialist satnav websites.

There is also the newish Zumo 660LM which currently retails on ebay for around £260 (Garmin RRP £445) but isn't quite so fully featured as the Zumo 595

Give it a couple of months and I'll wager that it will be available for circa +/- £300 in the UK!

Click the link below to have a look at the whole Garmin Zumo range of motorcycle waterproof satnaves which is quite comprehensive and are offered at various screen sizes, pricing points at various competencies - some, but not all, with lifetime Nu-map updates!
