I use the tyre app that came with the satnav.

It basically uses Google Maps as the map interface, so plot points on that, and then save to the tom tom.

One tip, if you do that is to check roundabouts, sometimes it'll take you round them and then half round again to go straight on.  The same is sometimes true where it'll send you down a side-road, do a U turn and then back within a few meters.

Generally it's pretty good, but watch the above if you want a really smooth route.

Old school. I write out every waypoint I want to take travel through and then type those into my Rider to build a route (itn file). Then I know that it will be taking the exact path I've told it to.

Well, in theory anyway.

Very occasionally it has a nervous breakdown and disappears up its own shiny arse.

I use tyre.

It's not that difficult once you spend a little time with it...

You do need a Windows PC for it though.

This is usually in conjunction with a Michelin Road Atlas as they have these green routes which are always good.

I used  to use ITN Converter with my old Navigon sat nav. Simple but effective and you could set it to use Michelin Maps thus seeing the green routes.

Recently bought a new Tom Tom Rider so still getting used to Tyre. I do like the fact you download the exact route track to the Tom Tom rather than a series of waypoints so you know it's going to follow the exact route that you have planned.
