Atom 3.5 K24 | CO Too high

Post by dinge » Sun Dec 04, 2022 11:49 am

Hi All,

I have recently purchased an Atom 3.5 supercharged from 2016 with a K24 engine.
For the car registration, the car needs to pass the Belgian MOT.
Therefore the CO and lambda values need to be at a certain level.
Unfortunately, they are bought not good to pass the test. The CO is too high (around 3-4%, needs to be max 0.3% I think) and the lambda value is too low (needs to be around 1).

I have changed the catalytic converter already for a new one and swapped the O2 sensor from another K24 engine (from a Nomad).
The CO value is unfortunately still too high.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I could try next or had similar issues?

Hi, I'd check all the usual suspects if it's really bad…..

Clean the air filter, clean / check the throttle body, check/replace the oil, inspect/replace the spark plugs for wear, test the map sensor or swap if you have another + lambada etc.
Also make sure you take it to the test centre plenty warmed up, and with the best octane fuel you can find. If the CO2 is still too high you might have other problems (running rich etc)….

Let us know how you get on!

My 3.5 needed to be driven VERY hard and than IMMEDIATELY test co emmissions, if i would turn it off and go have a chat and they started checking lamps etc first it would never pass.
Flaming hot co test is the advise

Apart the ideas ahead, you can have a problem with one injector . I had it on an Atom 3.5 350 hp. I have sent the 4 injectors to a spécialised company for cleaning and control of flow. One was bad and need to be changed. The emission test was good after this.

Facing the back of the Atom use the left exhaust exit on the STANDARD exhaust to do the test reading as the exhaust gas flow gets to travel a greater distance - mine has a high reading if I use the right exit but much lower using the left pipe.

A really hard hour's drive to get the engine as hot as possible before the test is also very helpful I've found!
