Post by frostynorth » Sat Aug 21, 2021 9:34 pm

Has anybody got a good solution to adding pannier bags to the side of an Atom 3?
Thanks in advance for help :)

This was my solution to carry loads of luggage for two for two week trip down to Italy.
Used cargo netting and water proof canoe bags. Used reusable cable ties to close and open netting really fast.
No wet luggage and nothing moved even at 100mph down motor ways.

Frosty

If you search this forum you'll find an extensive thread on this very subject.

From memory the consensus of opinion was that Overboard Ltd produce suitable 'kayak' waterproof bags in various sizes and colours that can easily be strapped to the outside of an Atom/Nomad frame alongside the driver and passenger!

Come to think of it I'm pretty sure that Overboard offer (or used to offer?) a discount to Ariel Club members!

Some have used Overboard kayak bags strapped to the frame, when on euro trips

German owner Curves Junkie has custom frames for motorcycle panniers on the side of his car. They look very impressive and probably help with weight distribution, being placed just behind the front wheels. I thought I had a picture from when he joined us on Alps trip in 2019, but can’t find it

You can go anywhere in an Atom or Nomad.

Thank-you for the responses :)

I would like to see what Curves Junky used for a rack if he sees this post?

Failing that I like the look of Canoe bag with the straps that attaches to the top bar… nice clean look and looks secure:)

If anybody else has different ideas , I would love to see them:)

Now all I need is for the UK to let me into Scotland to pick up my atom…. And then for the Spanish to let the Atom in after that 🤞🙏

I am looking at sourcing some suitable hard shell panniers for the Atom.
Did you get any further??

I have a friend who has a cad cutting machine that will cut any mount within reason from a block of billet aluminium. So I am confident of getting a mounting system made, but just need to find a decent set of suitable panniers and then have a play!
