12v aux feed

Post by Rooney1000 » Fri Jul 30, 2021 10:16 am

Hi

Can someone help me!

When I bought my Atom, 2nd hand, I was given the original spec / invoice and it had the 12v aux feed with lighter socket specified. My question is what does this actually mean !?

I have my phone mounted in my car and considering a go pro as well so thinking the need to charge these whilst on the move is going to become important. However there is no obvious place to connect a USB charger so guessing I need to buy something but interested to know how and where I would connect this and also what the above, at £48.60, provides 😃😃

Thanks all !

There should be a connector between the seats and/or under the dash to which you can connect a 12V aux feed. The connector will have a cap on which protects it from the elements when nothing is plugged in.

Many thanks. Just looked, would it be these? Have one under dash and one behind passenger seat.

If so then what sort of cable do I need, is there a recommended one?

Thanks for your help.

Rooney1000 - those are the ones. Just pull the caps off. You can buy the relevant cable from the factory. Mine came with a 12V cigarette lighter/Hella extension cable that was fused 8A but couldn't cope with my Gerbing heated jacket, trousers and gloves which draw over 13A, so I cut the male and female Hella/cigarette connectors off each cable and soldered, and heat wrapped, them together.

FYI the connectors are from Delphi Metri-Pack 150 range.

Great thanks. Was hoping I could just buy some kind of cable from Amazon that would just give me a USB connection !!!

Will speak to the factory !

Rooney

To run items such as mobile phone or satnav via USB you will need a converter as the car system is 12v DC and the normal USB power output is 5v DC to these devices.

Depending on what type of connector is on your 12v loom the Ariel factory can make up and supply to you a 'plug & play' single or Y connector to a cigarette lighter socket!
