Re: Ivtec article
Good article.
My initial love affair with Honda engines was based on VTEC. I loved having the two cams in one engine. The i part was nice too. Then Honda stopped trying to work towards continuous lift, timing, and duration, max adjustment, over any RPM, and I lost some of that love for Honda.
But, as time went on I've been realizing that Honda actually gave us loads more, and we're missing the point. In racing especially, you don't really need VTEC. What really matters is that their blocks are incredibly strong, rods can achieve F1 piston speeds, and OEM valvetrains that rev to 9,000 rpm last forever. VTEC really is more for fuel saving and emissions. VTEC is just the gateway drug into the real gold in Honda engineering. The magic is that you can run boost on a stock Honda K or F on the high cam and make incredible power with longevity to boot.
