Atom 1 several questions, tyre choice, brake bias, radiator

Hello forum,

finally my first Atom is an LHD Atom 1 140HP, it should be the 7th Atom every build. :vroom:

It was not used for a while and has just 2700 miles on the tacho.

It still has the first tyres on it from DOT 0400

My plan is to do the following service within the next three weeks:
- new engine oil + filter
- new cambelt + waterpump
- new thermostat
- new brake fluid
- rear rear mudguards
- new battery
- new tyres

I got no battery with the car, what is the minimum size/capacity for a stock lead battery, 30Ah?

I will drive it mainly on the (bumpy and wet) street, what tyres should I choose?
For trackdays I will buy a second set rims to put semislicks on them.

front 195/50R15 and rear: 225/40R16 or 225/45R16 rear? What brand and type?

The Uniroyal RainSport 3 is not available in this size for the rear axle, only in 225/50R16.

On the front left upright the lower screw came out. Should I use loctite on all screws?

From what car are the following components:
- brake pads and disc
- wheel bearings
- drive shafts

Have you ever seen something like that before?

Kind regards from germany,
Christian

Most Atoms seem to be fitted with Yokohama tyres (AD08 or AO48) - some people fit Kumhos (V70 ?) or Avons - for my next set I personally intend to try some of the new Pirelli P Zero Troffeo tyres 205/15 front (10mm oversized) and 225/16 on the rear.

I have recently fitted a new 'Varley Red Top 25' battery to my Atom 3 - which I bought from Demon Tweeks who will happily ship to anywhere.

- however whether or not this particular Varley battery would be suitable for your early Atom 1 I really wouldn't know - however I would suggest that you call (or email) the Ariel factory direct and ask.

In addition to advice the factory can probably also supply you with all the parts you need and also supply/recommend a suitable battery should you so wish.

Talk to the factory for the best information. IIRC the pads, bearings and driveshafts were all from the MGF (but I might be misremembering, so please check).

Enjoy the car. All Atoms are an absolute blast!

Thank you for the help, I am already in contact with the factory.

My current task is: where is the VIN?

The data sheet says it is on the left rear suspension mount, but I can not find it there.

Tomorrow I will fit the new cam belt and the water pipe.

perhaps on a manufacturer plate on the chassis, located on the back of the right seat.

Also check the top of the short piece of box section that holds up the pedal box. Difficult to see, especially on mine, but they did stamp them here at one time

A friend helped me searching the VIN, but we can't find it. In germany everything is complicated and without the VIN in the Chassis I can not register the car  ::).

Does anybody know the recommended torque for the upper and lower upright bolts?

I fitted the new water pipe, water pump and cam belt last week, the new tyres should arrive on thursday.
