Super-lightweight helmets...anyone have the HJC HX-11 or..??
Re: Super-lightweight helmets...anyone have the HJC HX-11 or..??
only a 4 ounce difference between my new CF HJC 10 and my Arai GP-5W - oh well, it looks great.
Re: Super-lightweight helmets...anyone have the HJC HX-11 or..??
4 ounces becomes something like 30lbs at extreme deceleration forces,or something like that
Your neck will thank you if that ever happens (God forbid)
They are beautiful helmets,I agree. Hey,you only go around once in Life, might as well do pretty

That's what a HANS device is for.

I also like to be able to wash and/or replace the snap in liner of the HJC - my Arai smells like baby powder and sh1t.

Have you tried a balaclava?

Hmm... even my old off road helmet is not that bad,and I wore that a LOT in hot weather, and sweated like a pig.

Yeah - they definitely help but I like the idea of having two helmets for a weekend.

I agree about the two helmets.I always keep a spare in the trailer.Just in case one walks off...

Next time you're desperate use the on site facilities or dig a hole!
You can also get forced air, or even better ozone blowers that help.

My dream helmet would be a Stand 21 IVOS: http://www.stand21.fr/casques/ivos/ivos-2.html

That's a pretty sweet helmet. Very nicely made and it does have a lot of options, plus it fits well with a HANS at the rear of the helmet. Anyone here have any experience with Stand 21?

I have stand 21 race suits and clothing, not helmets. I rate their customer service and products extremely highly and wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again.

I'm not sure what "developed around the hans system" means.
Hans devices and helmets are developed around the human.
I think they are just marketing (correctly) to safety minded consumers.

^I agree. That statement is just a catch to tell you it is drilled for the Hans post. Many helmets are nowadays. It really is no biggie to put the Hans anchors on;measure 6" foreward of the centerline of the helmet (left/right) measure 1.5" up...and drill....preferably while not being worn

I was lucky enough to visit their local distributor while one of their helmet engineers was in from France, so he went over all the details of their design very, very thoroughly, including test fitting and explaining the specifics of SA ratings versus M. He had actually just been at Snell and had the IVOS that had been on the Snell validation rig and showed me what they actually do to a helmet to rate it (drop tests, abrasion, etc.)
About the "developed around the HANS" thing, the only thing I can think of is that when I commented on the fact that the rear of the helmet seemed to be riding high around the back of the neck, I was told that their shell is designed that way so it doesn't pinch against the frame of the HANS as would happen with a helmet with a lower-extending shell. It had nothing to do with HANS posts.

btw, Mr. Toad, I would agree on the service, they spent over an hour going over helmets -- very professional folks.

Back of the shell looks no different than any other. It's all about catch phrases today.
