After a while I tried a bit further and although the interest does not appear to be overwhelming  ;), I just would like to finish this topic perhaps for people using the search...

So, I used the following parts:
- a motorbike switch, being able to manage around 5 ampere
- a spiral cable, also for around 5 ampere
- a waterproof 10-pole connector, 4 poles for shift light and 3 poles for indicators (3 poles without function), also
  for 5 ampere
- cable to connect the connector with the cables coming from the indicator relais (which normally go from behind to
  the original indicator switch)
- 3 little crimp connectors
- a piece of 2mm aluminium out of which I made the holder for the switch
- a piece of 3mm ply out of which I made a distance piece (comes onto the switch from behind as its fixing is made
  for thicker material)
- a piece of 5mm aluminium to fit the connector to the Atom
- some cable ties

I have only tried in the garage, but the handling of the switch is great. Will see whether it may disturb me during driving perhaps because the distance to my hands may not be big enough, when I steer mor than 180°.

What I actually do not really like is the second quite big spiral cable.
If I did it again (and depending on success I probably will), I would only use one thin 7-pole cable and put shift light and indicators cables together directly at the steering wheel.
As a result I would have to replace the indicator relais by one working with only control power from the switch, because the little spiral cable would not be able to manage the 5 amps.

GOOD work. I like that. :tu:

I am in the same position as you with the same wheel.

I wish the factory would offer such a kit to retrofit at service time. I'd bite their arm off!

Sadly i'm not too keen on doing this myself. :-

Hi Peter,

what would cause you headache?
It is not too difficult if you are able to use common tools, a saw, a rasp and some pliers. Soldering would also be good, but I am convinced you may know somebody who could do that 15 minutes for you.
If you are looking for some guidance I could perhaps send you more detailed information. Just let me know.

Had my first drive last weekend by the way and it works perfect :)
Easy to reach, enough space for the hands and you do not need to take a hand off the wheel for cancelling when you accelerate out of corners.

And in case this construction may not work anymore for what ever reason I can easily change back to the original switch within a couple of minutes an without tools.

Regards

Functionally I think I could do the work. I'm just dubious of deviating from factory standard via a DIY mod.

If its a mod but factory fitted then that's different.

I guess that's with a view to resale, but I have no such plans.  ??? I am a relatively new owner (just coming up to a year), I suspect that's why. ;)

Fair play to you tho. Looks good and is a much needed mod. :tu:

Cheers

Well... my dream came true just last year October  ;)
You can remove everything to original condition in about 30 minutes I would say (in my case apart from two very little holes at the container of the clutch fluid).
And that is including a cup of coffee and a cigarette  ;D

Perhaps I should think about offering a conversion set  ;)
