Hello - new buyer

Post by Damon » Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:14 pm

Hello from Oxfordshire!

A quick hello as I have just purchased an Atom 4 from the factory.

It’s a 70 plate with just 90 miles from new, with a satin black chassis, carbon bodywork, carbon mudguards and controversially a windscreen!

They are doing a few upgrades and changes so it should be ready next month so I should be on the road soon with some of my other Atom 4 and 3.5 friends (Hans K, Ian G and Andrew M).

I'm going to stick my neck out and say it looks pretty good with the screen (especially the front 45' angle)...... although my 3 has one too so I'm maybe a little biased! ;-)

Gonna chuck in my tuppence :

I actually think that the windscreen markedly improves the look making it look far more rakish than with the aero screens.

It also, in my opinion, transforms the driving experience by removing the need for a helmet not to mention by adding a bit to the performance as it markedly improves the aero - especially if side panels are also fitted!

I'm running for the Anderson shelter as I send this! :fence:

Hello and welcome

You can always remove the screen…. 😂

I know I've said this 20 times, but you really don't need a helmet. My mum's 85 years old, she'd prefer the windscreen...

Before I fitted the windscreen, while I always used polycarbonate sun glasses to protect my eyes, but if it was a hot day I frequently drove my Atom without a helmet - until the day, that is, I got hit on the forehead by a random (smallish) stone thrown up by the vehicle in front which hurt A LOT, shed copious amounts of blood and required 4 stitches!

I'll never ever drive a windscreenless car without wearing a helmet ever again!

You and I have driven these cars a lot. I've had the odd sting from a bit of grit or gravel, that's all, over 15 years and a lot of miles. I enjoy it so much with just a pair of Wiley Xs.
The only real problem I've had is driving quickly in the rain. Driving at altitude in Switzerland in the rain, trying to get ahead of it and catch the ferry to Sicily from Genoa was 'fun'.
Just adds to the rich vein of Atom memories.
I certainly respect the contrary view.

Totally agree. I’ve driven thousands of miles in my old 3.5 and now my 4. I’ll happily swallow the odd stone than have to wear a helmet. I wear a helmet daily when on my bike, so don’t want to when driving the Atom.I believe it takes a lot away from the experience. The odd stone from time to time keeps you awake🤣.
