New user from the uk

Post by Jonathon555 » Tue Aug 24, 2021 6:38 pm

Good Evening

I have joined up as i am looking to gain knowledge before placing an order for an Atom 4.

I am currently based in the north east of england County Durham and unfortunately have never seen an Atom in the flesh, never. I am not sure how many are out in the wild round here.

I am looking for a performance car to do what my other vehicles don’t & i hope that the Atom can fill that roll.

I have been looking through the options list & have come up with a spec , but i am just guessing and i hope you can all point me in the correct direction.

Many thanks in advance

Jon

Have a chat with Tom at the factory. He doesn’t try and upsell you and if you are clear about what you want it for you’ll get a good idea.
GR Yaris CP for when it rains, Atom 4 for when it doesn’t.

Good advice re talking to Tom, meanwhile put your specific questions to us here and we'll try and explain and assist ..

There's also some Youtube videos on the Ariel Atom 4 options that may be helpful.

Ok thanks for the replys.

1st question . What is the sport brake package front & rear £957,60

How does this differ to the standard brakes

Simply put better brakes, if you are considering track usage at all, then the general advice is get the sports brake package. I'll answer the next question, yes you need to upgrade the suspension, again for track, but also for resale. I went single adjustable as frankly I dont have the time or patience to be adjusting 2 or even 3 things on the suspension, if I want to go faster i'll take tuition ;-) The ohlins are fantastic by all accounts, although very pricey.

Add in LSD, Baffled Sump, Black Wheels, Aero screen, stainless steel fixings, it all starts to add up, but very much depends on if the car will ever see a track ? also what your realistic budget is. A good track/road car will be £52k +

Finally 350 upgrade, traction control, boost control, launch are nice to haves but not essentials, 350 upgrade can be added later .. respect the car and learn to control it and you'll never need traction or boost control ... However some prefer the added safety of the driver aids, also depends on your experience of a high performance car, the Atom in 320 form is other-wordly ..

Jonathon555 Might be worth posting your location, pretty much any owner will take you out and spend hours talking through their specification and reasons ..

Thank you for your detailed reply,

On the the suspension is setup , I would probably just leave it anyway at single adjustable. I learnt my lesson by over fiddling and ending up worse than when I started over the years. I will take on board your suggestions

I have experience with performance cars upto 550bhp, but I think this will be a different league. I have to recalibrate my brain when I take my performance car out after endlessly chugging round in my diesel.

I am located in Darlington

Thanks

Here's some 'Sport Brake Package' relevant reading from past forum posts :-
(Note that some of it refers to Atom 3 and Alcons which are now not an option)

Here's one of Simon's YouTube videos explaining some of the Atom 4 options :-
