Ariel 4 owner in the making :)

Post by Kuber » Wed Mar 03, 2021 9:46 pm

Hello everyone,

Just placed the order and paid deposit for Atom 4 earlier this week with estimated waiting time of 11 months ( gonna cry ), as I'm currrently based in Poland I did order through Polish dealer who had some build slots for Jan 22 secured earlier. Being petrolhead since always simply can't wait for the big day but need to figure out how to cool head down and wait calmly till delivery day :)

Really glad I made it to this forum as reading it for some time now, can see very strong community here, tons of right advices and knowledge.

Best of luck to you guys and have a joyfull and safe 2021 season!

Kuber.

Welcome :) 11 months is less than half the time I've had to wait - that'll fly by!

I think it is a part of the game and can't avoid it. By reading some waiting times now, feel realy lucky there were some free slots in PL. I bet you know best waiting tricks by now...

I'm just going through the spec list there and backwards and wondering if choices made are the right ones :D

I think that the clue to the shorter order time is that the Polish Ariel dealer had previously reserved some build slots and Kuber has benefitted from this.

I'll bet that if you pitched up at the factory tomorrow and order an Atom 4 you would still be looking at nearly 33 (or more) months?

That is exactly what has happened.

The painful way, but to be fair there is some magic in waiting process ...

Wish I only had 11 months to wait...!! ;)

Placed an order a few weeks ago and the current UK waiting time is about 28 months...

Right, so initial spec went in to Dealer but there are some items I'm not sure about, mainly in the suspension area as I don't know exactly how good/bad is standard one?

Car is going to be used 90% road 10% track where road use is mostly having a blast on the bendy mountain roads and good handling is a must.

Sample of the road:

General build spec I went in I think consists all the basics but feel free to ad /delete items you think are totally irrelevant or there is a better choice to make:

350 BHP upgrade - Decat pipe + ECU reflash
Limited Slip Differential
Polished Sports Exhaust Silencer (as well as standard silencer as spare) ( standard one in case of trouble on the track days )
Lightweight Flywheel
Adjustable Traction Control inc Launch Control
3 Stage Variable Turbo Boost Controller ( I come in from hot hatch background and adjustable power looks like good idea )
Baffled Engine Oil Sump
High Performance Sports Core Engine Coolant Radiator
High Performance Sports Core Turbo Intercooler
AP Racing 4 Pot Caliper/290mm Discs (inc handbrake) Front and Rear
Stainless Steel Fittings on Brake and Clutch Lines
Cockpit Adjustable Remote Brake Bias
Quick Release Steering Wheel
Battery Master Cut-Off Switch Kit
Fire Extinguisher (Stand Alone) - Road/Track Day Use
Towing Eye Kit Rear Road/Track Day Use (1 x hook)
Towing Eye Kit Front Road/Track Day Use (1 x hook)
3" Seat Belts/Harnesses With Alloy Chest Adjusters (each side)
V Type Crutch Strap for 3" Seat Belts/Harnesses (each side)
Road Legal Wheel and Track Day Tyre Package
Roadside Temporary Puncture Repair Kit
Stainless Steel Fixings
Machined Aluminium Wing Mirror Set
Aero Screen
Locking Fuel Cap
12v. Auxiliary feed with USB socket
Reversing Camera System
Passenger + clutch footrest (Passenger footrest only on Left Hand Drive)
Indoor Stretch Fleece Car Cover
Towing Eye Kit Front (road use)
Battery Optimiser/Trickle Charger
Carbon Fibre Aerofoil Front and Mounts
Carbon Fibre Aerofoil Rear and Mounts
Carbon Fibre Mudguard Set
Carbon Fibre Body Set (airbox,bonnet)
Carbon Fibre Instrument Panel
Carbon Lamp Covers
Carbon Fibre Rear Fog/Reverse/Number Plate Tail Tidy
Black Colour Wheels
Gunmetal Chassis
Front number plate bracket
IVA Test
Road Tax + Reg

Left to be decided are:

Suspension
High mounted stop lamp
Lap tracker

Would be intresting to get much more Ariel experienced colleagues to advise on suspension. Please let me know what you think?

Best regards,
jakub

Great looking spec!

I think the general consensus for the Atom 4 is that the Ohlins are the ones to have if you can stretch to it. They probably help with the resell value too as they're the most sought after. I've been out on the road in a car that had the 2-way adjustable MDS and also one that had the Ohlins and to be fair, both were fantastic on the road so you'll be very pleased with either.

Regarding the high brake light - the standard lights are very bright but I spec'd this because in slow moving traffic with the car being so low, somebody might not see your brake lights are on.

OK so the spec is finalised now, went with Ohlins and high mounted stop lamp so a bit above planned budget but we are only living once... :)

Tried to get some eye cheering Atom scale models but seems like only second hand ones are available if you are lucky to get it. This one arrived today :)

Your spec is outstanding, I haven’t been on the track yet but the Ohlins suspension on the road settings is excellent.

The hardest thing is not to red line it when it’s new
