Newbie from Portsmouth area
Hi all.
Just want to formally introduce myself, after going straight in at the deep end with lots of questions elsewhere on the forum!
OK, so here's my Ariel Atom story.....
2010 first saw one.
2010 Met 'deepdurks' (club member) a submariner then based at HMS Sultan in Gosport who owned one (mark 1, I think).
He was kind enough to give my Mrs and I a spin around Hampshire. I vowed then 'I will one day own one of those'.
2014 Had an 'Atomic Experience' Track Day. I once again vowed I would one day own one.
2015 Put deposit down on one, but bottled it as £31k was just too much (£4.5K being the most I have paid for a car).
Revert to plan A -Buy the Atom on my full retirement.
March 2020 and Covid comes along. Life is far too precious and short.
October 2020. Feck it!.... I Bought myself an Atom!.... It's Blue (or Black/White depending on what I choose!) , its 2.4 Supercharged, 310 BHP and its GAWJUSS!!
A video of the car can be seen here......
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEDOLaSl8tA&t=54s
I look forward to being an active member in both the Forum and physically after Covid has bogged off!
Phil

Re: Newbie from Portsmouth area
Well done on fulfilling your 10 year-old ambition - that does look spotless.
If your list of previous cars above is anything to go by, the Atom will be quite terrifying the first time your put your foot down in anger - I have managed to spin the rears on mine at 70 in 3rd on a dry road! The first time I drove one was when I collected my supercharged 3 from the factory and I drove it 120 miles home to Cornwall - I remember being very surprised how fast it accelerated above 70 and well beyond...
I have owned mine for just over 2 years now and covered nearly 6000 road miles in it and I still love it.
Enjoy!
P.S. I owned a 1978 Chrysler Avenger 1.3DL when I was at uni. back in the 90's.

Formal welcome Phil!
The number plate looks tasty (ATM?). Is that staying on the car?
Enjoy and hope to catch you around at some point...

Good to see you back and this time with the car. It's an epic drive, so enjoy every mile.
Re: Newbie from Portsmouth area
My list of cars Ive owned is very accurate, and yes, I'm thinking I may be scared first time in my own Atom. Scared of binning it!!

Re: Newbie from Portsmouth area
Great news Phil. Im not too far from you so meet up sometime. My car is almost the same spec and age as yours. I knew its first owner briefly. I nearly bought mine with the same Porsche Saphire blue panels.

Re: Newbie from Portsmouth area
Originally, I wasn't too keen on the blue (and thought I could change it anyway), but when I saw it in person, I really liked it.
I am a life long Manchester United fan though (one of the few alleged Mancunians that actually go to the games too!), and I don't own ANYTHING blue, until now, that is.
My Mrs has even 'christened' the Atom - 'Blue Moon' as a dig against me!
It is all taking some getting used to!
Regards
Phil

Re: Newbie from Portsmouth area
You'll be fine, as being a Biker like I am and was when I bought mine in 2006, you'll know how to feed the power in instead of just stamping on the accelerator, which is how I reckon owners lose the back end and spin off out of control.
Just treat it with respect the way you learnt riding your bike, and you'll get the best out of it.
