Hi from Sweden. I have question about converting the steering

Post by The Egg » Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:42 am

Hi all, I joined the forum today and are exited to learn as much as possible of this very interesting car.

I have today 2 KZ2 gocarts and a Cayman in the garage and the idea is to get ridd of the Cayman and replace it with an Atom

I see here it is recommended to first buy a used one before deciding on how a brand new one should be configured.
As the prices and availability are much better in the UK I am looking this way, BUT!!!

Do anyone know if it it possible / easy to convert from right steer to left??

Thanks and best regards

Hi The Egg,

There is a car for sale at the moment with an ambidextrous chassis which would be very easy to convert.  If the car does not have this fitted the process is a bit more involved but by no means impossible.

Hi Ben, thanks for your quick replay. So is an ambidextrous chassi a type of chassi/option so that it can be adapted to both left/right steering?

If so that is what I will need  :D

Tnx!

Yes it has the brackets built in to mount the steering / dash / pedals on either side of the car.  Look at the cars for sale on pistonheads.com, there is one with this option that would be perfect

first buying a used one when having the budget for a new one, sounds like a crappy idea to me...it's not like there is so much to choose from, these 20 options you should be able to choose without having to buy one first!

Choosing is very easy:
choose a supercharger...it goes faster
choose big brakes...it brakes better
choose the new light package...you see more
choose the track tyre package...you get these wheels
choose a colorcombo...they build it in exactly that colorcombo!

how difficult could it be?

buying a used one, because you are not able to wait a small year sounds more reliable, and there are some nice examples on PH, I believe the ambi chassis is almost brand new...saves some pounds, time and you don't have to buy a new one at all!
Atom 4 on its way, GR Yaris for the wet days

Tnx Ben / John for the tips on used cars. I really appreciate it.
However I just joined this nice forum and will most likly wait until next spring before getting one.
Also I need to sell my Cayman first  :-

Hi there,

I've seen the Left Hand drive car at the factory and it look very nice - it has Magnesium wheels and Carbon panels, mudguards, airbox etc. Well worth a look when you are ready (and if it's still there!)

Regards
::)
