New to me Atom 2 supercharged (Honda)

Post by speedmachine » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:09 pm

Hi all,

I have been asking some quetions on this board and received some pretty handy answers, so now it's time to introduce the new to me Atom 2 Supercharged.
Just like probably a lot of others, I knew I wanted this car ever since Jeremy Clarkson told me so...

I've owned a nice couple of cars like a a 350+bhp Mitsubishi Evo, Opel Speedster, 65 mustang Coupe, Dodge Viper  and last but not least a special build 550hp classic RWD Mini with a Hayabusa Turbo engine.

After these I was sort of surprised that the real thing still stood up to the dream I had for several years! Man what a car this is, fast really got a new definition in my book!

I picked it up this saturday in the pooring rain, but I didn't want to wait any more, it looked like this at that time:

I removed the stuff I didn't like. I took off all the stickers, the rollbar and the aerofoil package, I like the car clean and standard. Don't mind the EU headlights, will be changing them this winter for the new types, yet to be relaesed by Ariel.

now it looks like this:

So I hope you like it!

I have a question, what springs are these, I read in the "unofficial owners manual" about 5 positions for stiffnes (which you can adjust for track or road use) sounds great, but I don't think I have it. It sais 1323-front on a sticker on the front (other side sais 3327-front), the red assisting spring is "ERS 40-60-20" and the main is "ERS 180-60-40"

I think your car looks great, but then again my car has a black frame with yellow panels.

You have excellent taste, enjoy.

Looks like you have the non-adjustable Bilstein dampers with Eibach Springs
The Atom 2 adjustable dampers were 5 way, the Atom 3 are 10 way adjustable.

See this thread for description, discussion and table of Eibach Springs

Thought I recognised your car - Here's a couple of pics I have of it in an earlier life ...
(they are not my work .. )

They look like the Aluminium 5 position adjustable Bilsteins to me but the most important part at the top was cut off in the photo.  A small gold/brass coloured knob that has indentations cut out at the side to allow it lock in the 5 different positions

Gave my car a new look over winter:

-deleted the rollbar and airopackage
-I swapped the lumpy Eu-headlights for some smaller round ones and a tiny bike indicator (both flat black steel)
-swapped the big nr plate for a small custom made one
-had my yellow panels wrapped in carbon
-bought new screws and quick releases for all fiberglass parts as mine were old and fuzzy
-had my radiator rebuild
-mounted the atom 3 mirrors
-swapped the wheels for these TD ones with new black nuts
-had my nose cone resprayed because the former owner had stickers on them wich didn't remove properly and this made some parts all shiny, apart from that he also drilled a couple of holes in there to mount a camera...I hate holes in my car.
-had some new R888's fitted
-added a spacer in the steering wheel, now I don't have to stretch my arms to far
-I polished my exhaust

All together I like it better now.

Like the headlights.
If only the Atom 3.5 units looked like those.

the most fun part is that they cost next to nothing and are a 1 on 1 replacement for the EU owners, no need to adjust the bracket what so ever.
Only thing I had to do was make brackets for the indicators, which sounds technical but isn't too difficult.
Take a straight strip of 2mm thick alloy and drill two holes on the correct points, give it two bends, put some primer on it and paint them in whatever colour you want, semigloss black in this case, than it'll look like this:

I have the same headlights... Just keep an eye out for metal fatigue at the bracket and where the mounting point to the cowl is...

Are these the 'Dominator' headlights then?
