Talbot-Lago and Multipla and Boot Hill, oh my

Post by WorkingOnIt » Wed Jul 14, 2010 2:28 am

RM is holding their annual auction, Sports and Classics of Monterey in August preceeding the Pebble Beach Concours

It contains their usual eclectic assortment of good, bad, and ugly (can you say Messerschmitt Kabinenroller?).

And some items of known interest to forum participants.
View all lots here.

The Boot Hill Express is back on the market.  I guess it's sale last year fell through.

For those looking to complete their Multipla collection there's this 1960 taxi with a charming history.

Here's a 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C Lago Teardrop Coupe

and a couple of Delahaye teardrop style designs - 1938 and 1949 with custom bodywork by Saoutchik

My guess for highest price is this 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

On the other end of the scale, two Isettas, a 600 and a 300

...back to the good stuff, two Miuras - an S and an an SV

Two 1964 race Cobras, "King Cobra" raced by Parnelli Jones and a Shelby USRRC team car

Two additional 1967 427 Cobras.  Check out the history of this 2 owner example - the current seller says that on his initial inspection of the car, the first owner's urn was in the drivers seat!

Three Mercedes 300SL - a 1955 gullwing and 1957 and 1961 roadsters

and how about a Tucker?   Don't see these come up very often.

For the paranoid there's an armored 1928 Cadillac Town Sedan once owned by Al Capone.

The catalog for the auction has been completed, with lot numbers assigned and estimates added to each description (except for the '58 Testa Rossa which states "estimates available on request").

Over two dozen cars have been added since my first post, including a 959, an Enzo, a Lola T-70, and a Ferrari FXX.

a definite 'sex-on-wheels' candidate: a Jaguar D-Type

Also added a Ferrari Daytona (est $250K-$325K, I thought they were pricier), and two Maserati Ghiblis (1967, 1968 - which I always thought were better looking than the Daytona, even if they didn't have V12 mystique).

Results are in - the Testa Rossa did not meet reserve with a high bid of $10.7M
The record setting $12.1M sale in 2009 presumably set seller expectations high.

Top sold price was a tie - $4.62M each for a 1954 Ferrari 375 and 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C

The Boot Hill Express went for $88,000.

Miura S and SV went for $396K and $825K.

Top Ten sale prices here.
