Miura factory photo

The Lamborgini Miura is my favorite-car-of-all-time so I have to share this photo I just ran across.  Unfortunately I have no further details of date or circumstance.

ok - here's another one that was captioned here:

"August 1968 factory photo, which looks peaceful and calm since the factory was on vacation. A number of front engine drivetrains, likely destined for the Espada, share floor space with Miura powerplants."

One has to wonder who was running through the shut down factory opening or closing doors and bonnets.

Some more factory photos here:

here's the parallel Espada line on the other side of the building

I 'm with you on this.  In Car magazine this month there is a small picture of a Muira alongside one of a Veyron.  The Veyron looks like a small bread van in comparison.
I appreciate it has more cylinders, radiators and turbos and has about 80 mph on it top speed wise, (such an important speed range, the 170mph - 250mph); and I've read the early Muira's lifted at the front at high speed.  But which would you turn round to look at when you'd parked it, or enjoy washing and polishing the most.

Only the McLaren F1 comes close.

And the gas tank is in front, so it gets progressively worse through the day.  :)   They did some aero and suspension tweeks that at least partially mitigated the problem.  The shared engine/transmission oil is also criticized.  But for a car this revolutionary, it has held up pretty well.

Besides the aesthetic and historic considerations (first vehicle to be referred to as a "supercar" by an auto writer, and how long would it have taken conservative Ferrari to offer a high power mid-engine road car without this little nudge) the other reason I like the car so much is the owners seem to be by and large my kind of people, drivers and tinkerers, and not speculator-types.

And unusual among collectables - modifications (within reason) don't adversely affect value.  Lamborgini introduced enhancements throughout a model run, not just when designation changed (remind you of anyone) and owners (and sometimes the factory itself), would retrofit them.  Many owners through the years have brought P400s up to S spec, and maintained or increased value.  That indicates to me a fan base that likes to drive, not preserve a museum piece.

Here's a site of an "average joe" owner and his 25+ year restoration odyssey of chassis 3901.
Representative of the type of enthusiast I was talking about.
