They look utterly fantastic, but do not solve the positioning issue. I think that LED offers the winning combination of added brightness and flexibility in placement. If only they could be made a bit less than 7 inches in diameter...

LED headlights are available in a combined high and low beam 5.75" unit same as this 7" unit in the picture below, we have to wait here for the ECE approved version for use in Europe but as far as I know the US spec is ready to go.

That is beautiful! Can you supply the 5.75" unit to the states? What does it cost?

Karl

The cost for these units is much higher than Trucklite - BUT the warranty is 20,000 hours aginst the Trucklite's 10,000 and the output much greater. I will try and get some US pricing for you.

Here are the 7" on a Land Rover Defender to get a feel of what they are like mounted

Looks awesome.  How much would a set run shipped to California?

As they are not released yet as of August 2010 I guess they would be similar to the 7" which is around $1900 at todays conversion rate. The lamp is in a die cast aluminium basket with a glass lens as per a conventional headlight.

Here is a side by side shot of halogen H4 high beam versus LED high beam on identical vehicles, just so you can see the huge amount of extra light you get and the improved colour. LED is on the right!

Looks like they're 55W H1 halogen-powered. Mounting strategy is similar to Ian's (he's using a bi-xenon projector with an additional high beam reflector):

I made a part (blue on the pics) that I welded in the support :

We can adjust the slope of the headlight.

The easiest and cheapest solution to the Atom lighting problem is to just get some Piaa's.

I had the hard cased UK headlamps on my last car, but it seems the Factory's gone back to the rubber cased 'frog-eye' lamps:

I had fitted a set of these prior to my last trip to the Alps but on the way back from Atom X (first time in proper darkness) realised the brackets I had made did not really work that well giving a good light coverage of my passenger and my feet.

Since Atom X I have made a new adjustable bracket out of some aluminium bar sourced from ebay and some M8 threaded rod along with some rubber AV mounts I had in stock and the lights seem to be working much better.

I think the factory moved away from them as they kept vibrating to bits, my solution should fix this.
